Big Setback for Bangladesh as ICC Refuses to Move T20 World Cup 2026 Matches
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be played as scheduled, there will be no change in fixtures or venues, and this is a major setback for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Bangladesh’s request to shift their matches out of India has been rejected after the ICC found no credible security threat during detailed assessments.
The decision came after an ICC board meeting was held today via video conference, where members discussed the current issue of venue change raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. BCB wants to relocate their T20 World Cup 2026 matches to Sri Lanka due to security concerns, but ICC finds no such threat, and the tournament will continue as planned.
ICC Finds No Security Threat in India:
According to the ICC, multiple security reviews were conducted, including independent assessments, and this led to the conclusion that there is no risk to Bangladesh players, officials, media personnel, or fans at the venues in India during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
ICC has also shared detailed venue-level security plans with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, along with formal assurance from the host authorities. ICC said that making changes to the T20 World Cup 2026 schedule at this moment isn’t feasible. They also warned that altering fixtures without a verified security threat could set a dangerous precedent for future ICC events.
An ICC spokesperson said, “Over the past several weeks, the ICC held sustained and constructive discussions with the BCB, sharing independent security assessments, venue-level safety plans and formal assurances from host authorities. All evaluations consistently concluded that there is no credible or verified threat to the safety of the Bangladesh team during the tournament.”
He further added, “Despite this, BCB continued to link its participation to an unrelated domestic league issue involving one player. In the absence of any independent security concerns, the ICC said relocation fixtures is not feasible, as it would disrupt scheduling, affect other teams and fans and undermine the neutrality , fairness and integrity of ICC governance.”
