The injury woes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have every team on their toes. All the teams apart from Gujarat Titans had an injury scare in their camp ahead of the tournament but the defending champions too have joined the bandwagon. Their premier batter Kane Williamson got injured in the opening game against Chennai Super Kings. Although the extent of the injury is yet to be known. But what seemed on the television, it looked like a serious injury.

Kane Williamson gets ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a knee injury

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in Sports Tak, Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to the knee injury he suffered in the tournament’s curtain raiser against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). 

Williamson injured his knee while fielding during the first innings of the game between GT and CSK. It was during the 13th over of the game when Ruturaj Gaikwad tried to hit smashed Joshua Little’s delivery to the deep square leg boundary, where the Kiwi batter was stationed. 

Kane Williamson made a staggering effort and jumped to save the six. He flicked the ball in the air and as he tried to save time for his team he lost his balance and landed awkwardly. As he touched the ground he hurt his right knee and was in immense pain. 

He then was taken off the field as he was seen limping. Williamson was substituted by Sai Sudharsan, who can in as an impact player. The New Zealand batter went for scans and the recent media reports revealed that the injury is much worse than expected.

This will come as a massive blow to Gujarat Titans as Williamson could’ve been a crucial player going further into the tournament. His experience could’ve given the team an added advantage. Notably, he was acquired by the GT at his base price of ₹2 crores.

Gujarat Titans kick-started their IPL 2023 campaign with a staggering five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings. They batted and bowled extremely well and made sure that they continue from where they left off last year. Based on a staggering bowling performance by Rashid Khan, Mohammad Shami and Alzarri Joseph, they restricted the opposition to a total of 178 runs. 

However, after that Shubman Gill oozed his class and played extremely well for his 63-run knock. A vital contribution from Wriddhiman Saha (25), Sai Sudharsan (22) and Vijay Shankar (27) kept GT in the hunt. Before Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan finished the game for the team.
