BCCI Unwilling to Attend ACC Meeting in Dhaka Amid Asia Cup 2025 Dispute - Mohsin Naqvi Calls Emergency Meet

BCCI's unwillingness to attend the ACC meeting in Dhaka has stirred tension as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), led by Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi, plans an emergency meeting on July 24, 2025, to address the Asia Cup 2025’s fate. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited geopolitical issues, including unrest in Bangladesh and strained ties with Pakistan, for skipping the Dhaka meet. 

With India as the official host, the tournament faces cancellation, prompting Naqvi to push for talks. The BCCI is exploring a new multi-nation T20 series as an alternative.

BCCI’s Stance on Dhaka Meeting

BCCI unwilling to attend ACC meeting in Dhaka, scheduled for July 24, 2025, due to political unrest in Bangladesh and tensions with Pakistan. The BCCI, after postponing India’s Bangladesh tour, finds the ACC’s choice of venue insensitive. “

Everyone knows the geopolitical situation. It’s not right to hold this meeting in Dhaka,” a BCCI official said. Sri Lanka Cricket also supports moving the venue, with Dubai or Colombo as options.

Mohsin Naqvi’s Emergency Meeting

BCCI's unwillingness to attend the ACC meeting has prompted ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi to call an emergency meeting. Naqvi, also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB chairman, insists on keeping Dhaka as the venue, coinciding with Pakistan’s T20I series in Bangladesh. 

The ACC offered online participation, but the BCCI remains firm. Naqvi aims to finalize the Asia Cup 2025 schedule, with the India-Pakistan clash set for September 7 in the UAE.

Asia Cup 2025 in Jeopardy

BCCI unwilling to attend ACC meeting puts the Asia Cup 2025 at risk. India, the official host, prefers the UAE due to tensions with Pakistan post the Pahalgam attack. The BCCI may pull out entirely if the ACC doesn’t agree to a neutral venue. 

Without India, the tournament loses financial backing from sponsors like Sony Pictures, who secured media rights for USD 170 million. A cancellation seems likely without a resolution.

BCCI’s Backup Plan

BCCI's unwillingness to attend the ACC meeting has led to plans for a new multi-nation T20 tournament. With the Bangladesh tour off, the BCCI is in talks with Sri Lanka and England for a tri-series in August-September 2025. 

This would prepare teams like Suryakumar Yadav’s India for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The BCCI awaits government approval but sees this as a way to keep cricket active if the Asia Cup fails.
