BCCI treasurer presents his thoughts on the Rohit-Virat debate: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not just names in world cricket, but a brand of their own. The two have been key architects in India’s enormous success in the last decade or so. While Kohli was identified as one of the greatest batters right from the start of his career, Rohit earned the tag after he was made to open the innings in 2013.

The two giant Indian cricketer’s popularity soars through the roof as they enjoy massive fan support in the stadium and across social media handles. Rohit and Virat have insanely loyal fan bases, who at times turn their back against each other on the Rohit-Virat debate. In fact, as the popularity of the two cricketers increased over the years, more fans began turning their back against each other, as a result, online fights/debates became pretty common.

Moreover, the Rohit vs Kohli debate got fueled following reports of the two players not seeing eye to eye due to the on-field differences, which is a thing of the past now.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer, Arun Dhumal has shared his views on the so-called online Kohli vs Rohit debate.

Dhumal said that the board doesn’t discriminate between Rohit and Virat, in fact, any other player for that matter. The debate isn’t happening inside, it’s all with the fans.

“We never think about it. It is the passion of fans that drives them and this debate. When you are attached to an emotion, then you tend to say all that. And social media is a platform where you can talk about anything. They speak their heart out because there are no restrictions. That is why people think it persists,” said Arun Dhumal.

He further added that the same pattern was noticed during the time of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

“We saw the same with Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, or later between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. On social media, matters amplify to an extent that people believe all this is true,” he added.

Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have become two of the most influential figures in Indian cricket. Their commendable batting over the years has won India numerous matches single-handedly.

Moreover, Rohit and Virat form a formidable pair who have scored plenty of runs together. The duo has amassed 4914 runs in the 84 times they batted together at an impressive average of 63.81. In the run, the duo has scored 15 half-centuries and 18 centuries along with five 200-run partnerships.
