IPL 2023 Auction Update: BCCI sets December 15 as the deadline to register for IPL 2023 Auction

BCCI sets December 15 as the deadline to register for IPL 2023 Auction: In the latest development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set December 15, 5 PM as the deadline to register for the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Auction. All the players who are interested to be part of the lucrative league will have to enrol before 5 PM on December 15.

Interestingly, a couple of big names have already placed their hat for the IPL auction. The likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green etc are reported to have enrolled for the auction.

Notably, Joe Root will be back at the T20 circuit after a long absence from the format. The former England test skipper missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) appearance owing to national commitments and responsibilities. In fact, Root has been cut off from the T20I format itself for the longest time.

However, the England batting mainstay now looks to enter the IPL auction in a bid to make a comeback in England’s ODI side. Certainly, Joe Root is aiming for the 2023 ODI World Cup and his IPL stint will help in developing certain white-ball skills in him.

Meanwhile, the IPL franchises are not happy with the BCCI’s decision to host the IPL 2023 auction on 23rd December. Most of the franchise officials have requested the BCCI to either prepone or postpone the event as they will lose their overseas partners due to Christmas Festival.

However, the Indian cricket board is yet to respond to the issue. A BCCI source recently told that the board will only take necessary steps after considering multiple factors.

“December 15 is player registration deadline. We expect some top players to enrol. As for the auction date, December 23 is the set date for now. We are discussing some franchises’ requests to advance the date. But there are other factors involved. Only after deliberation with all stakeholders, we will come to a decision,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.
