BCCI secretary Jay Shah takes over as the president of ACC.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the president of the Asian Cricket Council(ACC). The decision was taken at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ACC and Jay Shah was unanimously elected as the president.

Shah will take over the reins from Nazmul Hassan, President, Bangladesh Cricket Board. He will be the youngest person to be appointed as the president of ACC.

In his speech addressing the AGM, Shah said: “The ACC will continue its good work throughout in my tenure. ACC has given healthy competition to some of the biggest cricket playing countries and also looked after the smaller pockets. We must ensure the all-round development of cricket in the region and keep the cause rolling.”

“The unwanted and unpredictable pandemic has thrown many challenges but it is always seen that the innovation arises in adverse situations and we must make sure that we are getting advanced day in and day out. It can be seen that most of the cricket boards have started its cricketing operations with the senior men’s team, however, the challenges are with women’s games and age-group games. The ACC has done a tremendous job in regulating women’s as well as age-group games and we must bind to it,” Jay Shah said.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly congratulated his fellow and said, “I am delighted to congratulate Jay Shah on being appointed as the new president of ACC. We both have worked together and closely, and I am well are of his plans and visions to develop the game. His zeal to develop cricketing infrastructure in Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and other North-Eastern states of India shows his sheer vision and plans. It is definitely a challenging phase for all of us, but I am sure that he will successfully navigate through it. The BCCI will extend their support to build a better ecosystem for cricket in Asia.”

Treasurer Dhumal also lauded Shah’s election to the top post of the continental body.

“Being the youngest president of ACC shows his passion and vision towards cricket. Jay Shah is a strong leader and will definitely take the cricketing operations one step ahead in Asia.”

The AGM was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
