IPL 2021: Aakash Chopra predicts KKR playing 11, wants KKR to announce Gill as Vice-Captain
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator, Aakash Chopra in his recent video uploaded on youTube says, KKR should appoint Shubman Gill as the vice-captain of the side.
The former cricketer feels that KKR should restructure the team around Shubman Gill. The young opener had a fantastic test debut series against Australia where he amassed 247 runs in 3 Test matches which include 91 on the fourth innings of the Gaba test.
Chopra who is known for his bold commentary earlier said KKR should appoint Shubman Gill as the skipper of the side like Delhi Capitals did with Shreyas Iyer. DC in 2018 played a gamble and appointed Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the side.
Delhi under Iyer for the first time qualified for the Finals of the cash-rich league in 2020.
"KKR have Tim Seifert as an option to open with Shubman Gill. But they could look towards Dawid Malan. With Morgan as the captain, I think they will have a greater interest in Malan. Otherwise, they have Tripathi and Nitish Rana has also opened a few times," said Chopra.
?Dinesh Karthik and Andree Russell will come at number 5 and 6. If KKR wants to make this year hit then their number 5 and 6 player has to score big runs. Russell will be one key player to watch for. KKR has a solid squad, they will look for Indian batsmen. They have Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik which is not too bad,? he added.
?KKR will need a strong backup for Russell. If Russell gets injured then all dynamics of the team could change so they will either go for Cameron Green or Moises Henriques if they are looking for someone who can provide two services.?
?They have an option to go for the spin-all rounders also. Moeen Ali and Shakib in that case are the best options. Shakib earlier played for this franchise. So, they will want someone from these four to come their way apart from Dawid Malan and top-order overseas batsmen.?
?I want KKR to announce Shubman Gill as the new vice-captain of the side during the mini-auctions. This will be the last mini-auction before the mega-auction and my first choice retention will be Shubman Gill. He can perform the duties of Captain in the coming years, he is a talented and bright prospect not for KKR but for India also.?
?If they want something big to come their way then they will have to take strong steps like Mumbai Indians did with Rohit Sharma and Delhi did with Iyer.?
