BCCI name Ishan Kishan as KL Rahul’s replacement for ICC WTC Final: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced Ishan Kishan as the replacement of injured KL Rahul, who was ruled out of the impending ICC WTC Final 2023, a couple of days ago. Kishan will join the Indian squad in place of KL Rahul for the ICC WTC Final against Australia in London, next month.

The Indian cricket board also added the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Mukesh Kumar and Ruturaj Gaikwad to the list of standby players for the marquee event.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Ishan Kishan as KL Rahul’s replacement,” said the BCCI in a media advisory release on Monday.

It also confirmed that KL Rahul, who suffered an injury in his upper right thighs during fielding in IPL 2023, will undergo surgery at the earliest and then will begin his rehab programme at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Notably, KL Rahul injured his right thigh while guarding the boundary ropes during Lucknow Super Giants vs Royal Challengers Bangalore game at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. The cricketer was soon taken for the scans and revealed that he won’t take part in the ongoing IPL 2023 and will also miss the upcoming ICC WTC Final 2023 between India and Australia.

Meanwhile, in more troublesome developments for the Indian squad ahead of the ICC WTC Final 2023, pacer Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav are in serious danger of getting ruled out. Both the pacers have faced injuries during their stint in the ongoing IPL 2023.

While Jaydev Unadkat has injured his left shoulder, Umesh Yadav suffered a hamstring injury, though a minor one, during the match between RCB and KKR.

“Jaydev Unadkat sustained a left shoulder injury by tripping over the side rope while bowling in the nets. A specialist consultation has been sought and the left-arm fast bowler is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru undergoing strength and rehab sessions for his shoulder,” wrote BCCI.

“Umesh Yadav sustained a minor left hamstring injury during Match 36 of TATA IPL 2023 between RCB and KKR on 26 April. The fast bowler is currently under the care of the KKR Medical Team and has started low-intensity bowling as part of his rehab process.”

The BCCI is in constant touch with both the players and their recovery is being tracked. Their participation in the ICC WTC Final is as of now in jeopardy, however, the BCCI will take a call after consulting the medical teams.
