Bangladesh Cricket Latest News: Apology Demand Continues as ICC Tries to Save T20 World Cup Plan
A lot of things happened in Bangladesh Cricket in the past few days, with players calling off their boycott of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), but the tensions between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) continue. Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India is still uncertain.
The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) officially ended its boycott of the BPL on January 15, 2026, after having discussions with the BCB. The decision came after the Bangladesh Cricket Board removed director M Nazmul Islam from the BCB’s finance committee after a strong objection from the senior players.
CWAB president Mohammad Mithun confirmed the decision at a press conference. He said players chose to return to the field “in the greater interest of cricket” after receiving assurances from the board. As a result, BPL is scheduled to resume on January 16, 2026.
Bangladesh Players Still Want Public Apology:
The BPL boycott began after Nazmul Islam questioned players' commitment and finances. He reportedly said the BCB would not suffer financially if Bangladesh refused to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and that only players would face losses.
He also questioned the “crores of taka (Bangladesh Currency)” spent on players, but we didn't even do a single ICC tournament. After this, Nazmul Islam was sacked from his position with immediate effect and given 48 hours to respond to the board.
ICC Steps in Over World Cup Dispute:
Two senior ICC officials are set to arrive in Dhaka to resolve the issue of not travelling to India for the T20 World Cup 2026. Meetings are expected to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium with BCB officials and representatives of Bangladesh’s interim government.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play three group stage matches of the T20 World Cup 2026 in Kolkata and one in Mumbai between February 7 and 14. Bangladesh are part of Group C along with teams like England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is all set to start from February 07, 2026, in India and Sri Lanka. Everything is on schedule, and there will be no delay in the tournament. If Bangladesh refuse to travel to India, they are likely to get out of the tournament, and their points will be distributed among the other teams in the group.
