Babar Azam has achieved another massive milestone, he surpasses Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli and becomes the highest run scorer in T20Is. He achieved this milestone during the second T20I match between Pakistan and South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan won the second T20I by a dominating performance against South Africa by 9 wickets.

Babar Azam needed nine runs to break Rohit’s record of 4,231 runs, and he easily reached the mark after playing an unbeaten knock of 11 runs in the 2nd T20I and led his team to victory. With this, Babar Azam is now the highest run-scorer in the T20I format, and he is going to keep it for a long time.

Babar made 4,234 runs in 130 T20I matches, which includes an impressive 36 fifties and three centuries with an excellent average of 39.57. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma scored 4,231 runs in 159 innings with an average of 32.05, whereas Virat Kohli scored 4,188 runs in 117 innings with an average of 48.69.

Virat Kohli has the highest average amongst  all top 3, whereas Rohit Sharma has the highest strike rate among all three, and Babar Azam has the highest runs scored in the T20Is. Both Virat & Rohit have already retired from this format, and Babar Azam still has a long journey ahead.

This milestone truely matters to Babar Azam as he missed the Asia Cup 2025 and was also critized for his form and exclusion from the team earlier in 2025. It will boost his confidence, and he might make a good comeback in the upcoming matches. Babar’s presence will be very helpful for Pakistan in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
