Australian batting great Adam Gilchrist picked his top five T20 International players in the world yesterday, with less than two weeks to go from the T20 World Cup 2022 to be played from October 16.

Gilchrist, who himself is credited with revolutionizing the game with his work with both the bat and wicketkeeping gloves, enjoyed an amazing career for Australia in white-ball cricket. He won three World Cup titles with the Kangaroos. He scored 9619 runs in 287 ODIs at a strike rate of 96.94 and 2622 T20 runs at a strike rate of around 141.

In the ICC review, Gilchrist has now picked five of the best T20I players at the moment. The Australian legend has overseen a wealth of T20 cricket and has Australia opener, David Warner, at the top of the list of players from five different countries in his quintet.

Gilchrist was quoted as saying by ICC.com, “David Warner is at the top of the order. I think just his aggressive attitude, the way he starts the innings at the top, and the confidence he has from the last T20 World Cup.”

Babar Azam (Pakistan)- ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 3rd

Next, he picked Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who scored 3039 runs in 87 T20Is at a strike rate of 130.03 with 2 centuries and 27 fifties.

“His versatility across all formats, but also when it’s getting down to T20 cricket, just across all conditions, I think he can play all conditions really well,” Gilchrist said for Babar Azam

Hardik Pandya (India) – ICC T20I All-Rounder Ranking: 4th

Gilchrist’s third choice was Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who made a stellar return to the Indian team in 2022. He has scored 989 runs in 73 T20Is at a strike rate of 148.89 and has also taken 54 wickets. Gilchrist said, “Pandya is just an awesome figure straight across the board. His ability to bat, bowl, field, and entertain, he’s definitely in there.”

Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) – ICC T20I Bowling Ranking: 4th

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan was Gilchrist’s fourth choice, considering that he has taken 118 wickets in 71 T20Is with an economy of 6.24. “He’s just got to be there in any T20 team, doesn’t he? Cricketer of the year in this format across the world. Over the last decade, Rashid Khan is in there,” the former Australia keeper said.

Jos Buttler (England) – ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 21st

Ranking fifth in England captain Jos Buttler, who has scored 2227 runs in 94 T20Is at a strike rate of 142.57 with a century and 15 fifties, Gilchrist signed off saying that “It’s a bit batting heavy I know, but Jos Buttler for me. He is just dynamic, with his power and his courage to take it on. Simply a stroke of brilliance from him and its game over.”
