Pakistan had a good toss and opted to bat first. Saim Ayub replaced Imam, which reflected that Pakistan were going for an aggressive approach this time. But Starc and Hazlewood had different plans when they sent both openers back to the pavilion at a duck. Babar Azam and Shan Masood were in the crease in just the second over of Day 1.
Babar played three elegant cover drives but Cummins found his pad in front of wickets. Saud Shakeel was next and Pat Cummins made sure he won’t last long. Shan faced 70 balls and scored 35 runs but fell prey to Mitch Marsh when Pakistan had a 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Mohammed Rizwan and Agha Salman were in the middle and they surged a counter-attack on Australian bowlers. With 10 boundaries and 2 sixes, Rizwan scored 88 runs in 103 balls and a bouncer by Cummins ended the beautiful and savior innings.
Agha Salman also punched Australian bowlers but a shortish delivery by Starc put an end to his innings just after he scored a fifty. Pakistan were 227 for 9 down. Aamer Jamal played quite smartly and scored some handy runs for his side.
