In what has been the latest development as per the reports in Times of India (TOI), it is learned that keeper-batter Sanju Samson is all set to be dropped from the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, set to be played from 30th August to 17th September. 

Sanju Samson was given an opportunity in the West Indies series. However, he couldn’t capitalise on the chances. He played two ODIs, scoring 9 runs in one game and smashing a fifty in the second game. But after that, he failed drastically in the T20I series. 

Ishan Kishan on the other hand set the stage on fire in the ODI series as he smashed three consecutive half-centuries and it’s fair to say that the keeper batter sealed his spot in the team for the Asia Cup 2023. 

Sanju Samson was picked in the team because of KL Rahul was injured. The reports have also suggested that Rahul has attained his full fitness and will be available for selection in the Asia Cup 2023. He recently played a practice game at NCA and it is learned that he has also started keeping.

Apart from KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer also played a practice game at NCA but recent reports have suggested that he is yet to gain his full fitness and there his selection for the Asia Cup 2023 is still not sure. The batter suffered a back injury in February this year.

Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 is all set to be announced by 20th August. There is high possibility that the squad which will be named for the tournament might play World Cup as well. The Indian team will be having a special camp ahead of the Asia Cup to prepare for the tournament. 

The team will be assembling in Bangalore at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will be undergoing several sessions to get themselves read.  The camp will be held from 24th August to 29th August and following that Indian team will be travelling to Sri Lanka to play the tournament. They will be opening their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on 2nd September in Kandy.
