Asia Cup 2023: Afghanistan Announces a Strong 17-Member Squad for the Asia Cup. Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the team. Afghanistan has named a 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. A few changes were made in the squad, which was playing against Pakistan in the ODI Series.

Karim Janat, Najibullah Zadran, and Sharafuddin Ashraf have been added to the Asia Cup 2023 Squad, whereas Players like Fareed Ahmad, Azmatullah Omarzai, Shahidullah Kamal, and Wafadar Momand have been dropped from the squad, who were in the squad against Pakistan.

Karim Janat is a fast bowler who has played the last ODI in 2017 and will be returning to the team after six years, but he has plenty of experience in the ODI format. Najibullah Zadran is a middle-order batsman who returns from a knee injury, and Sharafuddin Ashraf is an all-rounder who can bat and bowl.

The remaining squad members are the same as those who played against Pakistan. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran are expected to open for Afghanistan in this tournament, whereas Riaz Hassan, Nabi, Shahidi, and Zadran will take charge of middle-order roles.

The spin attack will be led by Rashid Khan, Mohd. Nabi, Noor Ahmad, and Mujeeb ur Rahman, whereas Fazalhaq Farooqi and Karim Janat will lead the pace attack.

The Asia Cup 2023 will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17. Afghanistan is placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. They will be playing their first match of this tournament on September 5 against Sri Lanka at Gaddafi Stadium.

It will be challenging for Afghanistan to get back on the winning track as they have lost their last seven ODI matches, which shows the inconsistency in this format. Skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi needs to perform better for his team to win the matches and give tough competition to others.
