Afghanistan's squad for Asia Cup 2025 announced, Rashid Khan to lead the underdogs

Rashid Khan (C) leads a balanced 17-member squad featuring power hitters Gurbaz & Zadran, all-rounders Nabi & Omarzai, and a strong spin attack including Mujeeb and Noor Ahmed. Pace led by Naveen-ul-Haq. Matches:

Afghanistan Squad For Asia Cup 2025: The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup is slated to be organized on the soil of UAE and this time around, a total of 8 teams will take part in the multi-nation tournament. Now the squad of the Afghanistan team has been announced for the upcoming tournament. Rashid Khan has got the captaincy of the team. The squad also includes all-rounders like Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai.

Gurbaz and Zadran got a chance

The duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have performed brilliantly for the Afghanistan team for some time now. In such a situation, both of them can be given the responsibility of opening the innings. Experienced players like Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib have also been picked in the team. 

Naveen-ul-Haq got a place

Seam bowler Naveen Ul Haq will be seen handling the responsibility of leading the pace- bowling attack. He played the last T20 International match for the Afghan team in the year 2024 and has taken 67 wickets in T20 International cricket so far. Fazalhaq Farooqui has got a chance in the team to support him. The spin department includes the likes of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed and Allah Ghazanfar.

Afghanistan team will play its first match on 9 September

The Afghanistan cricket team will be kicking off their campaign in the T20 Asia Cup 2025 against Hong Kong on the 9th of September. After this, they will lock horns against Bangladesh on the 16th of September. Then their last group-stage game will be against Sri Lanka on 18 September. The Afghanistan team is a part of  Group B for the upcoming tournament.
