ENGvsIND: Aakash Chopra slams Indian management to pick Jadeja ahead of Ashwin.

ENGvsIND: Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra has slammed the Indian management in England for prioritising Ravindra Jadeja ahead of spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the first test between India and England at Trent Bridge. Chopra feels that the decision to drop Ashwin was an unfair one and the cricketer had done everything right to get picked in the playing11.

Virat Kohli and Indian management raised the eyebrows of almost all Indian fans after Ravichandran Ashwin was overlooked for the opening test. India fielded four pacers along with one left-arm spin all-rounder to give depth to the batting unit.

Although the move to pick four-seamers have been fruitful for India, Chopra couldn’t comprehend the idea of dropping decorated spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Speaking about the same on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “There was no place for Ravichandran Ashwin, which I feel is wrong. India should have played Ashwin. If you look at the Australia tour, he was really good.”

Ashwin picked up four wickets in the recent ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand and bowled a lot better than Ravindra Jadeja.

“Even in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Ravichandran Ashwin bowled better than Jadeja. Why would you leave him out? This is the first match of the Test series, you should have played him. Maybe India would not have needed him much but he should have been there in the XI,” Aakash Chopra added.

Team India bowled out the hosts for 183 in the first innings with Jasprit Bumrah picking up four wickets while Mohammad Shami, Sharduk Thakur and Mohammad Siraj picked three, two and one wickets respectively.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul managed to negotiate the last hour of the day without losing a wicket. Both batsmen amassed 21 runs on the stumps of day 1.
