ICC Champions Trophy 2025: What happened in the recent 20-minute ICC Board meeting on the Champions Trophy venue
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is currently in the headlines. The tournament is scheduled to be held fully in Pakistan. However, the Indian Cricket Team has not gotten the NOC from the government to travel to Pakistan because of security reasons, and hence the BCCI wants the tournament to be held in a hybrid model with India’s matches in either the UAE or any other country. However, PCB is hell-bent on holding the full tournament on their home soil and does not accept the idea of a hybrid model.
India has not travelled to Pakistan since 2006 and has not even played any bilateral series since 2012/13. The stance of the Indian Government is clear: Till Pakistan stops funding cross-border terrorism, India won’t travel to Pakistan. There was a virtual ICC meeting scheduled on November 29 to arrive at a solution regarding the Champions Trophy 2025.

The International Cricket Council (ICCB) Board’s meeting at the Champions Trophy ended without a resolution after a brief 20-minute session. Despite the urgency, the unresolved tension between India and Pakistan over the tournament’s hosting was palpable. The PCB remained firm, rejecting any hybrid hosting model, which has been a point of contention.
With all board members present, the atmosphere was thick with the weight of impending decisions. It’s clear that this deadlock requires more than just hours to untangle, with insiders suggesting that talks might stretch over the coming days. The sources reveal that it will require more than 24 hours for the meeting to be held again.
However, everyone present will try their level best to find an amicable solution regarding the deadlock. The PCB does not want to accept the hybrid model. They feel that it will give an undue advantage and preference to the BCCI, and that is not acceptable to the PCB.
