Good Players learn from their mistake, but he hasn’t, Dale Steyn lashes at Rishabh Pant for his poor performance: Team India’s stand-in captain for the ongoing series against South Africa, Rishabh Pant is having a horrible outing with the bat as he registers his fourth successive failure in T20Is. The ongoing series is turning out to be a disaster for the Indian wicketkeeper batter who is aiming to secure his place in the T20 World Cup 2022 squad.

Dale Steyn, former South African pacer, has taken a dig at Rishabh Pant’s poor form and said that good players learn from their mistakes, but in this case, Rishabh has got out nearly in the same manner in all four innings.

“Pant has had four opportunities now in this series and he seems to be making the same mistake. Also, you could say that good players learn from their mistakes…but he hasn’t,” said Dale Steyn in conversation with ESPNcricinfo.

Rishabh Pant’s batting woes have stirred a fresh debate among the netizens as to who should be in India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad as the primary glovesman. The debate has got intensified with the comeback of Dinesh Karthik in the Indian T20 setup.

The South African legendary bowler reckons that Dinesh Karthik should triumph Pant to be in India’s World Cup squad.

“Yes definitely,” replied Dale Steyn when asked whether Karthik should be preferred ahead of Rishabh Pant for the World Cup 2022.

“DK has come up just every single time and shown what a class player he is. I think if you want to win World Cups, you pick a guy who is in form that guy is going to win you the World Cup. If he is in a purple patch and is red hot, you pick that guy. Teams will pick on reputation but DK is in such fantastic form, and if he continues he will be one of the first names written down on the plane when India tour for the World Cup,” he explained.

Steyn also lavished praises on Karthik’s match-winning 55-run knock in the fourth T20I against South Africa in Rajkot. The veteran glovesman entered the bull-ring when India needed a lion-hearted effort to overcome the and he fell no short in delivering an excellent knock.

“DK has been in phenomenal form, looks like he is getting better and better. He has that great wicket-keeping mentality, reads the game very well. He knows and understands what bowlers are going to do and he backs it up really well with good skill.”

India and South Africa will now meet on Sunday for the series decider in Bangaluru. The five-match series is currently levelled at 2-2, with momentum being on the hosts’ side.
