"Four Minutes" Before: Unseen Drama Behind India-Pakistan Asia Cup Clash

The Asia Cup 2025 witnessed one of its most dramatic moments during the India vs Pakistan group Stage match on September 14, 2025. A whole controversy happened over the hand shake, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) even registered a complaint against the match referee Andy Pycroft, alleging him for sideing with the Indian Team.

Indian National Cricket Team captain Suryakumar Yadav did not shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha during the toss or after the match. Indian Players silently walked back to their dressing room after winning the match against Pakistan by seven wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, leaving Pakistani players waiting for the handshake.

This gesture by the Indian National Cricket Team Players was reportedly made in solidarity with victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and in respect of the Indian Armed Forces. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) clarified that the Team's decision was aligned with the government's sentiments.

The "Four Minutes" Decision:

According to the reports, match referee Andy Pycroft was given brief notice around four minutes before the toss about the Indian players' concern over handshake protocol. Pycroft reportedly conveyed India's decision not to shake hands with Pakistan to the Pakistan team.

This move came from the India Team and was approved by the Indian Government, and it has nothing to do with any formal cricket law, as there's no complusory rule or something to restrict players to shake hands.

Pakistan's stance on the handshake issue:

On the other hand, Pakistan takes this incident as against the sportsman spirit and protests the involvement of the match referee, accusing Pycroft of bias and blaming him for instructing the Pakistan captain not to have a handshake.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lodged an official complaint with the Asian Cricket Council and demanded the removal of Pycroft from officiating Pakistan's matches in the tournament. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected the complaint of PCB over match referee Andy Pycroft.

After all of this, Pakistan threatened to boycott their match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but they delayed their departure to the stadium by an hour. PCB wanted a resolution from ICC, but there was no rule or law broken by the Indian Team.

However, Pakistan played the game after a one-hour delay, and PCB claimed that Andy Pycroft apologized from the team for his remark by sharing a video where the match referee and other PCB officials were there, but there was no audio in the video clip.
