In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Times of India, it is learned that Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set to become the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
This comes after Sanju Samson expressed his desire to part ways with the franchise. The premier batter has been in the news for the last few days as there are strong reports about his trade. It is learned that he is all set to move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who in turn will give Ravindra Jadeja.
With Sanju Samson all set to leave, the talks related to the captaincy in the RR camp have begun. As per the reports, Yashasvi Jaiswal along with Dhruv Jurel have emerged as front-runners to lead the team in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel told to prepare for captaincy
The reports claimed that both the batters are close to Kumar Sangakkara, who is the Director of Cricket at the franchise. Both reportedly were told to prepare for captaincy during their recent trip to England and this will be a massive move for the franchise.
Jaiswal and Jurel are regular members of the Indian team in the Tests and have also been playing a great role in the IPL as well. Jaiswal has slammed 2,166 runs from 67 IPL games at an average of 34.38 and SR of 152.85 to go with 15 fifties and two tons.
On the other hand, Jurel has slammed 680 runs across 42 IPL games for RR at 28.33 and a strike rate of 153.84 in the competition. He also has slammed four fifties. His calm and composed nature also suits him best but so far no decision has been place.
In IPL 2024 when Sanju Samson missed games due to injury, it was Riyan Parag, who was leading the team in his absence. However. He now seems nowhere in the scenes as Jaiswal and Jurel are the top contenders for the post.
