WTC FINAL: After two years of grind and hustle, Australia have become the World Test Champions defeating India in the ICC WTC Final 2023 at The Oval, London. It is known that till the fourth day, both teams wasted the time of about 34 overs. Regarding this, ICC fined India and Australia for slow over rate, and additionally, Shubman Gill is fined for his Social Media post on his controversial catch.

In violation of the ICC Code of Conduct, Australia and India, both received severe penalties for maintaining a slow over-rate during the World Test Championship final. The Kangaroos ended up winning by 209 runs after the game was over on Sunday morning. Due to their slow overrate, the Indian team was penalized their entire 100% match fees, whereas Australia were asked to pay 80%.

Australia were considered to be four overs short, while India were found to be five overs short of the mark. For every over that a team fails to bowl in the permitted time, players are subject to a fine of 20% of their match fee, as stated in Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Gill Fined 15% for Social Media Post in WTC Final

In regards to Gill’s controversial catch, Gill edged a delivery from Scott Boland to the third slip, where Green quickly dived in order to finish the catch. Australian team members began to celebrate and Gill stayed in the middle. The umpire then called up the third umpire, Richard Kettleborough, who eventually declared Gill out after looking at just two different angles.

Gill posted this on his social media after Cameron Green’s catch on the fourth day of the game was determined as a fair catch by television umpire Richard Kettleborough. The post seemed to be questioning the decision.

For violating Article 2.7, which forbids publicly criticizing or making improper comments in response to an incident occurring in an international match, Gill has been hit with a fine worth 15% of his match fee.
