WPL 2026: Points table after match 1, MI vs RCB
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had a stellar start to the WPL 2026 as they pulled off an incredible win against the Mumbai Indians (MI). They won the season opener by three wickets in Navi Mumbai, snatching the victory from the jaws of defeat.
The Mumbai Indians had a poor start to their innings as Amelia Kerr struggled big time. And, soon after she perished, Nat Sciver-Brunt also fell as defending champions were left at 35 for two. Opener G Kamalini (32) looked good and despite wickets falling at the other end, she kept scoring runs for her team.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (20) supported her as the duo bailed the team out of trouble. RCB bowlers asserted their authority and left MI reeling at 67 for four. But it was then that Nicola Carey (40) and Sajeevan Sajana (45) joined hands and added 82 runs for the fifth wicket that put RCB under pressure. Thanks to their heroics with that bat, MI posted a total of 154 for six. For RCB, Nadine de Klerk picked four-fer.
In the chase, RCB were off to a flyer with openers in Grace Harris (25) and Smriti Mandhana (18) smashing MI bowlers all over the park. They added 40 runs inside four overs, but MI pulled back things brilliantly after that and reduced RCB to 65 for five in the next four overs.
Nadine de Klerk (63*) and Arundhati Reddy (20) then counter-attacked the bowlers for their 52-run stand. Despite losing wickets at the other end, de Klerk fought hard and took the game till the last over, where 18 runs were needed. The first two balls were dots and then she oozed her class, hitting a brutal fifty and taking her team to win with three wickets in hand.
