World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated: Another good day in business for Team India as they conquered South Africa at the Eden Gardens by 243 runs. Just another fantastic day in business for Rohit Sharma and his boys as they confirmed the top finish in the World Cup 2023 Points Table.

The game proceeded with India winning the toss and opting to bat first against South Africa. Skipper Rohit Sharma was right on the money from the word go and launched an attack on the opposition to score quick runs in the powerplay. Though the captain couldn’t stay long, he ensured that his team was off to a flyer with the knock of 24-ball 40-run innings.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill picked from Rohit left, but soon the latter was also removed by Keshav Maharaj. Kohli then joined forces with Shreyas Iyer to add 134 runs to the team’s total for the third wicket. Shreyas Iyer played a fantastic innings of 77 runs in 87 deliveries before getting dismissed.

Kohli continued his stay in the crease and completed his 49th ODI century and equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the most number of tons in the ODI career. He remained unbeaten at 101 runs in 121 deliveries. Towards the end, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja added handy runs – 22 and 29 respectively – and took the team’s overall total to 326 in 50 overs.

After the batters had a brilliant outing, it was time for the Indian bowlers to shine and demolish the South African batters. The Men in Blue started with the wicket of Quinton de Kock off Mohammad Siraj’s bowling.

The Proteas never looked settled while chasing the big total against India and lost wickets on the bounce. No batter could even touch the 15-run mark as India registered a big win by 243 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja became the chief architect of the victory with a five-wicket haul while Mohammad Shami and Kuldeep Yadav scalped two each and one wicket went to Mohammad Siraj.

India’s win over South Africa ensured that the hosts will remain afloat at the top of the points table of World Cup 2023 till the end of the league stage. India also remained unscathed in the tournament with eight dominating victories in as many matches. Their only remaining fixture is with the Netherlands, which will be held on November 12.

South Africa, on the other side, though, has sealed the semi-final berth, but they might be a little frustrated with their performance while chasing. In the three games they have chased in the ongoing World Cup 2023, two have resulted in a hammering loss, while on one occasion they could barely cross the line by 1 wicket.

The South Africans will play their last game of the World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan on November 10.
