World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated: Team India has now officially qualified for the World Cup 2023 Semi-Finals after mocking Sri Lanka, once again, at the Wankhede Stadium. The Indians ruthlessly demolished the entire Sri Lankan unit and secured a fairly easy victory by 302 runs. The win helped India qualify for the semi-finals and again reclaim the top spot in the World Cup 2023 Points Table.

It just became the action replay of the IND vs SL that happened during the Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo. The only difference was that last time India batted second, which was the other way around this time.

Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and opted to bat first, which turned out to be a disastrous decision for his team. Under the lights, the ball moved a lot more than in the first innings.

Team India posted 357 runs total against Sri Lanka after the completion of 50 overs. Opener Shubman Gill top scored the innings with the knock of 92 runs, while Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer contributed with 88 and 82 runs innings respectively. Later in the innings, Ravindra Jadeja played a handy knock, scoring 35 runs in 24 deliveries and taking the overall total of the team to 357 runs.

Speedster Dilshan Madhushanka scalped five wickets in the process while Dusmantha Chameera too got a wicket.

Sri Lanka were always going to be under pressure with such a big total in front of them. This got even more bothering with the Indian pacers breathing fire at the Wankhede Stadium.

The tone for the Sri Lankan innings was set straightaway by Jasprit Bumrah, who trapped Prathum Nissanka LBW in the first delivery of the innings. Mohammad Siraj was too quick to pounce on the opportunity and joined forces with Bumrah to dismantle the Sri Lankan batting unit.

In his first over he removed Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis to make the cricket scoreboard look like a football one. Then in the fourth over, Siraj again picked a dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama, and the opposition was on the brink of another collapse.

Soon Mohammad Shami, also, entered the party with two consecutive wickets in his first over of the game. He later removed three more Sri Lankan batters cheaply and made a mock of the entire Sri Lankan batting unit.

The sublime bowling effort from team India reduced Sri Lanka to an embarrassing total of 55 runs and India won the game by a massive 302 runs.

Pacer Mohammad Shami was awarded the Player of the Match trophy for his second five-wicket haul in the ongoing World Cup and an overall third in the World Cups.

IND vs SL: India Qualify for Semi-Finals World Cup 2023

With the win, Team India became the first team to officially qualify for the World Cup 2023 semi-finals. Additionally, the Men in Blue reclaimed their topmost spot in the World Cup 2023 Points Table with seven victories in as many matches. Notably, Rohit Sharma and his men are the only team to remain undefeated in the ongoing tournament.

Talking about Sri Lanka, they are on the brink of getting eliminated. They have secured just two wins so far and the highest they can now get is eight points if they manage to win their remaining two games. This will bring net run-rate into play, which is also not favouring the former World Cup champions. So it looks all pale and tough for the Sri Lankans.

The top four of the World Cup 2023 Points Table feature – India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand – in the same order.
