WI vs SCO: Romaria Shepherd's hat-trick takes West Indies to 35-run win over Scotland in T20 World Cup 2026

West Indies registered an emphatic win to begin their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on a high note. They defeated Scotland in game two of the tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata by 35 runs on Saturday. Asked to bat, West Indies posted a total of 182 for five, in response, Scotland tried hard but fell short of just a few runs.

West Indies had a decent opening partnership with Brandon King (35) and Shai Hope (19) added 51 runs for the opening stand. However, both lost their wickets quickly with the team losing two wickets in ten overs.

After that, the show was stolen by Shimron Hetmyer (64), who walked in at three and slammed a brilliant half-century. He was well supported by Rovman Powell (24) as the duo added 81 runs for the third wicket and provided much-needed momentum to the West Indian innings in the middle overs. Sherfane Rutherford (26) also played his part as West Indies posted 182 for five.

Scotland failed to have a good start as they lost three wickets in the power play with Michael Jones, George Munsey and Brandon McMullen back in the hut with the score reading 37 for three. With the side under pressure, captain Richie Berrington (42) stepped up for his side and played a great hand.

Tom Bruce (35) was amongst the runs as he and captain Berrington added 78 runs to put West Indies under pressure. At one stage, Scotland were right on the track in the chase with the score at 115 for three.

But West Indies made a strong comeback with Romaria Shepherd taking four wickets in five balls including a hat-trick. Eventually, Scotland got all out for 147, losing the game by 35 runs.
