The Indian U-19 National Cricket team, captained by young star Ayush Mhatre, commenced their campaign in the Under-19 ODI World Cup Zimbabwe & Namibia 2026 in a strong manner. In the very first match of the tournament, India's bowling gave clear indications that the team is a strong contender for lifting the trophy.

Deadly spell against USA

The Indian team's decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved to be a wise one. Henil Patel maintained precise line and length with the new ball, leaving the USA batsmen unable to recover. Henil bowled a total of seven overs, dismissing five batsmen for just 16 runs. 

His sharp bowling reduced the USA team to 107 runs. Henil Patel provided India with an early breakthrough by dismissing Amrinder Gill. He then weakened the middle order by dismissing the opposition captain Utkarsh Srivastava and then Arjun Mahesh. 

In his subsequent spells, Henil maintained pressure on the lower order, dismissing Sabrish Prasad and Rishabh Shimpi to complete his five-wicket haul.

Who is Henil Patel?

Henil Patel is an 18-year-old all-rounder from the city of Valsad, Gujarat. He is a batter who bats right-handed and a right-handed seamer. Born on February 28, 2007, Henil made his mark in domestic and youth cricket at a young age. His father introduced him to cricket. 

After performing well in local tournaments, he caught the attention of the selectors. He has been a part of the India Under-19 and India A Under-19 teams. Before the World Cup, he was also part of the Indian team in the Under-19 Asia Cup. Due to his consistent performances across formats, he earned a place in the Under-19 World Cup squad.
