VVS Laxman to be appointed head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore.

After successfully convincing former Cricketer Rahul Dravid to take up the coaching duties of the senior men team India, the BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, has confirmed the appointment of VVS Laxman as the chief of National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore.

Earlier, Dravid was the head of NCA, however, after his appointment as the head coach of India, the position was vacant. Laxman is likely to assume the charge after the tour of India “A” of South Africa, later this month.

ANI officials contacted BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and asked whether the former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman will be given the charge of NCA, to which Ganguly replied with “yes”.

The Indian cricket board has taken initial steps to include former cricketers in the top cricketing position in the country.

The sources in the know of development have confirmed that not only Sourav Ganguly, but the secretary Jay Shah and other senior officials of the board are on the same page to give senior positions to the former cricketers for better development of the sport in the country. The same goes with the inclusion of VVS Laxman.

“Sourav and Jay both would love to have Laxman take up the NCA role. But yes, the final call obviously lies with the former India cricketer as he has a young family also. He is undoubtedly a front runner for the role and not to forget how he has been known to share a special bond with now coach Dravid. It will be the perfect combination to have those two work together towards taking Indian cricket forward. Nothing like having former cricketers coming on board to help produce the next generation of stars,” the BCCI source had said.

Several pundits have reckoned it as the start of a new era in Indian cricket with head coach Rahul Dravid, new T20I skipper Rohit Sharma and new NCA head VVS Laxman.
