Vivo IPL 2021: The second leg of the Vivo IPL 2021 is confirmed and the league will kick start again from September 19 while the final of the competition will be held on October 15 informed Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Vice President on Wednesday.
“IPL will be held between September 19 and October 15,” informed Rajeev Shukla.
The cash-rich league was curtailed after a couple of covid positive cases erupted inside the bio-bubble of franchises. The authorities halted the league to provide safety to the players on May 4.
As informed earlier, the second half of the tournament, which will consist of 31 IPL games, will be held in the UAE. The three stadiums, Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be used for the action of the IPL 2021.
Interestingly, the IPL 2021 and ICC T20 World Cup are two important events that will be held one after another.
Yet, dates for the World Cup are not announced, however, it is expected that the marquee ICC event will begin in mid-October.
The World Cup is also likely to get hosted in the UAE due to poor situations in India caused by the ravaging pandemic. The names of Oman, Sri Lanka are also on the list that will be considered to host the World Cup.
The ICC official informed that the schedule and dates for the World Cup will be released in the month of July.
“We will release the dates and venue of the T20 World Cup only in July. We cannot comment on it as of now. But there is no rule on the need for a gap ahead of an ICC event. The ICC needs 10 days to prepare the pitch and the ground ahead of an event. That too is a norm and not a rule,” said an ICC official. He added, “The rest of it is still being worked out between the BCCI and the ICC. We can talk about it only later.”
