Virat Kohli bags ICC Players of the Month Award for October: Indian star batter Virat Kohli has bagged his maiden ICC Player of the Month Award for his stellar performance in the month of October, the ICC confirmed on Monday. Kohli unleashed his beast mode as he accumulated 205 runs (in October) for his team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s all-rounder Nida Dar was awarded the same honour in the women’s category. Dar surpassed Indian batters, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma to get the monthly award. During the recently held Women’s Asia Cup, Nida Dar was in sensational touch. She scored 145 runs for Pakistan in the tournament and helped her side to enter the semi-finals.
Kohli has been on a roll in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. He played perhaps his career-best T20I innings against Pakistan in the opening match and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. The maestro batter scored an unbeaten 82 runs knock and won the player of the match award for his scintillating performance.
The former Indian skipper continued his purple patch and produced two more half-centuries against Netherlands and Bangladesh in the next three matches.
Notably, this was Virat’s first appearance in the ICC Player of the Month nomination since the inception of the honour earlier this year and he exactly knew how to make it count. The Indian talisman blotted out South Africa’s David Miller and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, who were the other two nominees for the accolade.
It’s important to note that the winners of the ICC Player of the Month nominations are declared after a global vote calculation amongst ICC Hall of Famers, media representatives, former international players and registered fans.
It is a great honour for me to have been voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October,” said Virat Kohli. Being chosen as the standout player by fans across the globe as well as the panel makes this accolade even more special for me,” he added.
“I want to pay tribute to the other nominees who performed so well during the month and also to my teammates, who continue to support me to perform to the best of my ability.”
