The TATA IPL 2023 is most probably scheduled to begin on March 20. With that being said, the Delhi Capitals will be hoping to find and declare a captain as soon as possible. The Delhi Capitals have a strong squad, and there are a few contenders for the job of captain. But the best choice will be to hand over the captaincy to David Warner. Apart from that the team will rely on the openers to do the bulk scoring and there are many other points to be discussed. Here is a quick look at the team from the capital city of India, Delhi Capitals:

Strength of the Delhi Capitals:

Their top-3 are their strength. The top 3 are expected to be Warner, Shaw, and Marsh, or Warner, Shaw, and Pandey. Any of the combinations are good. These are all great players. Manish Pandey looked off-color last season but to say the least, Pandey is an IPL legend. Season after season he has been the backbone of the batting line-up he has played for. One bad season doesn’t overshadow his class. And the community is pretty aware of how colossal Shaw and Warner can be o their respective days.

The other strength is their fast-bowling depth. They have the top players in the business. Khaleel, Chetan, Kamlesh, and Mustafizur. The presence of Anrich Nortje adds immense value too. He constantly clocks 150 kmph.

Weakness of the Delhi Capitals:

The weakness is the absence of an Indian middle-order batter. They are relying on Sarfaraz Khan but Sarfaraz has got the runs in red-ball cricket. His numbers in the white-ball domestic circuit are not very exciting. The other options at number 6 are Ripal Patel and Lalit Yadav. They backed Lalit last season; it will be the same this season. There are no other evident weaknesses.

Opportunities for the Delhi Capitals in TATA IPL 2023:

With weaknesses, come opportunities. Lalit Yadav or Ripal Patel or Sarfaraz Khan will play at least 7 games. And 7 games are enough to leave an impact if they get a chance to bat. Ayush Badoni is one example who did the same last year. His scores were not very high while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants but his performances were impactful. Jitesh Sharma is another example. Jitesh even earned a national call-up based on his display for the Punjab Kings

The absence and the workload management of their expected skipper David Warner. Warner is the most crucial player for Australia in the Ashes. So, if Cricket Australia wants to withdraw his name in the later stages of the TATA IPL 2023, they can do it. Finding the right combination with a good finisher is a big task for the team. They do have Rovman Powell in the squad but only time will tell whether he will be effectively used or not.

Squad for the Delhi Capitals:

Phil Salt (ENG), Yash Dhull, Sarfaraz Khan, Ripal Patel, Rovman Powell (WI), Prithvi Shaw, David Warner (AUS), Rilee Rossouw (SA), Manish Pandey, Lalit Yadav, Mitchell Marsh (AUS), Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, Aman Hakim Khan, Praveen Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman (BAN), Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Lungi Ngidi (SA), Anrich Nortje (SA), Vicky Ostwal, Chetan Sakariya, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma.

Predictions for the Delhi Capitals in TATA IPL 2023:

The Delhi Capitals will be a huge miss this time. They are expected to finish in the last 3. The reason is that they are lacking those big match winners. If they had Rishabh Pant, it was a different ball game. But his absence will cost the team. Their top run-getter can be Prithvi Shaw or Manish Pandey and their top wicket-taker will be Kuldeep Yadav.

X-Factor Players:

Anrich Nortje is an X-Factor player and so is Prithvi Shaw. Prithvi Shaw is coming after scoring almost a world-record score in the Ranji Trophy. That might have done wonders of confidence for the young man. Prithvi bats at a strike rate of 182 in the powerplay overs. While Anrich Nortje is fit as a fiddle and will bowl at 150 kmph throughout the tournament. He scares the batters by sheer pace. He is an asset and gives 2 economic overs in the powerplay in the TATA IPL 2023.
