TATA IPL 2022 is going to begin on the 26th of March. The tournament begins with the Chennai Super Kings going up against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The powerplay overs are a crucial part of every game. The first 6 overs in the T20 format are considered as powerplay overs and only 2 fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle. The batsmen try to make the most of this by attacking the bowlers. However, some bowlers manage to take wickets in these overs. So, who are the top 5 wicket-takers in the powerplay overs? Here’s a look:
1)Sandeep Sharma will play for Punjab Kings in TATA IPL 2022:
The record for the most wickets in the powerplay overs belongs to Sandeep Sharma. Sandeep has been exceptional for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Punjab Kings as well. He can swing the ball early on in the initial overs. He makes effective use of the wind direction for the same. Swinging the white-ball is an art, and Sandeep has mastered that. Unfortunately, this amazing bowler is not a regular feature in the Indian national team. He has grabbed 53 wickets in 89 innings.
2)Bhuvneshwar Kumar will play for SRH in IPL 2022:
Who is more well-acquainted with the powerplay overs than Bhuvi Kumar himself! Bhuvneshwar has been the Indian national team’s strike bowler for 5 to 6 years now. The “King of Swing” has grabbed 52 wickets. One doesn’t easily forget Bhuvneshwar’s wicket of Mohammad Hafeez on the first ball of his international career. His in-swinger is a nightmare for many batsmen. He bowls at an economy of 7.02. Most of his services were provided to the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
3)Zaheer Khan will be the coach of MI in IPL 2022:
Zak played till the 2017 season of the IPL. In his game time, Zaheer played for RCB, Mumbai Indians, and the Delhi Capitals. Zaheer Khan was giving a tough time to every left-handed opening batter in his prime. Even after playing only 8 seasons of the IPL, he has managed to feature on this list. This speaks volumes about the skill of this genius. Zaheer has scalped 52 wickets at an economy of 6.7! His game-changing over against England in the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 will always be cherished by fans.
4)Umesh Yadav will play for KKR:
Umesh Yadav, the “Nagpur Express” also features on this list. This bowler is often trolled for leaking runs in the death overs but his exploits in the powerplay overs are not recognized. He was unrealistically suer-quick in the initial few years of his career. Yadav lacked line and length but with time passing by, Umesh worked on it too. He has taken 45 wickets at an economy of 8 in 109 innings. His game in 2018 against the Mumbai Indians where he got the wicket of Surya and Ishan on two consecutive balls shows his skill level.
5)Dhawal Kulkarni has gone unsold in IPL 2022 Mega Auction:
There are very few players that have been a part of this tournament from the first season. Especially in the case of bowlers. Dhawal Kulkarni is one of these rare breeds. Having played the majority of his IPL games for Mumbai Indians, Dhawal has left a legacy behind in this franchise. He has also made notable contributions to the Rajasthan Royals. Dhawal swings the ball in the initial few overs and both directions. His out-swinger was too good. It is unfortunate that Dhawal has gone unsold in the TATA IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Kulkarni has picked 44 wickets in 84 innings.
