Six Indian cricketers failed to qualify for 2 KM run fitness test at NCA.



National Cricket Academy (NCA): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently introduced new item for the fitness test of the Indian cricketers. The new 2 KM run has been introduced and according to the reports, six Indian cricketers have failed to qualify for the long run.



The six players include wicketkeeper batsmen Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan. All-rounder Rahul Tewatia, batsman Nitish Rana and pacer Siddarth Kaul and Jayadev Unadkat. The 2 KM run was conducted at National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore this week.



The officials have assured that the concerned players will get another chance for the test as the item is new to the basket.



?Since this is a new type of fitness test, they will all get a second chance to clear it at a fresh date, after some gap.?



However, if they fail after given a second chance than their selection for the upcoming five T20Is and three ODIs against England could be in danger.



In 2018, two Indian cricketers Mohammad Shami and Ambati Rayudu failed to clear the yo-yo fitness test following which they had to miss out on the limited-overs leg for England?s tour.



?A few fitness tests were held at NCA this week for roughly around 20 cricketers who are in the reckoning for the contention for the upcoming limited over series against England and for the T20I World Cup later this year. The fitness test includes two kilometres run and the players have to complete the milestone in eight minutes and thirty seconds while for the pacers the time duration reduced by 15 seconds. Pacers need to complete the run in eight minutes and 15 seconds,? an official source said.



?Six players failed to complete the test in the given time while some players barely managed to complete the run.?



When asked about the base beside the conduction of this test, the source said, ?Like in the case of the Yo-Yo test, it is mandatory for the cricketers. Head coach Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli are impressed with the criteria.?

VIVO IPL 2021: Shreyas Iyer fully fit to compete in Vivo IPL 2021 for Delhi Capitals.



VIVO IPL 2021: Team India?s and Delhi Capitals (DC) young batsman Shreyas Iyer has been granted clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore to take part in competitive cricket following a comprehensive recovery of his shoulder injury.&nbsp;



Iyer will join his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) for the second leg of the Vivo IPL 2021, set to be staged in the UAE from September 19.



Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was handed the leadership reins of DC after Iyer was injured and has led the team impressively. DC is ranked one in the points table of the Vivo IPL 2021 after eight matches.

It will be interesting to see if Delhi management gives back the captaincy role to Iyer once again after returning back from the shoulder injury.



The 26-years old cricketer sustained a shoulder injury during an ODI match between India and England following which he was ruled out for at least six months. Iyer underwent shoulder surgery in the UK in April.

As per the report of NCA, Iyer is completely fit to undergo intense cricketing action after completion of his rehab program.



"Yes, NCA has issued a fit certificate to Shreyas. He stayed in Bengaluru at the NCA for a week and his final assessment has happened few days back. Based on all medical and physical parameters, he is now ready to play matches.



"This couldn't have happened at a better time with India's T20 World Cup campaign in two months time," a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.



It is worth noting that Iyer was also seen playing football in an all-star friendly match in Mumbai along with MS Dhoni and few other Bollywood stars.&nbsp;

Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid has reapplied for the post of chair of National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore losing away the indications of him being unlikely to take up the lead role for the senior Indian cricket team. If the reports are to be believed, Rahul Dravid is highly unlikely to sideline Ravi Shastri as India?s head coach after the T20 World Cup 2021.



The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to invite fresh applications for the head of NCA as Dravid?s existing contract expired. According to the new rule, extensions in the role are not possible. Every two years, there will be new applications for the post.



?Yes, Rahul has reapplied for the post of Head of Cricket. You don?t need to be a genius to guess that he is going to continue after the tremendous work he has put in to change the face of NCA, which is now truly a centre of excellence," a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.



The source also stated that no name has been received by the board close to the stature of Rahul Dravid.



?In fact, as of now, save Rahul, there are no other prominent names of stature who have applied for the post."

Although Dravid has shown his refrainment from leading India directly, the NCA head chose to work indirectly to supply future stars through a robust selection system at National Cricket Academy Bangalore.



Despite having no ICC glory under Ravi Shastri, India has done tremendously well in being the best team in the world. India has crushed Australia in their own backyard two times under Shastri and the team is going strong to beat England in England in ongoing India vs England test series.



India has become a formidable outfit under Ravi Shastri and the values of never giving up have been inducted into the players to rise up from different situations. India showed a glimmer of these values in the last Australia tour as well as the recent Lords test match against India.



It is noteworthy that Ravi Shastri?s current contract will expire after the completion of the T20 World Cup 2021. He received an extension of two years after the completion of the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.



For any other individual who aspires to become India's head coach, it is really an onerous task to replace Shastri from the position unless he himself steps down or there is someone like Rahul Dravid standing in the line after doing a remarkable job at the U19 level and as NCA director.

Troy Cooley to be assigned bowling role at National Cricket Academy (NCA).



The National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore is all set to welcome former cricketer Troy Cooley as the bowling coach. The Indian cricket board has recently appointed former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman as the chief of the key cricking academy.



The BCCI now aims to groom a new set of speedsters for the coming years and no one better than decorated Troy Cooley could be called for the role. Cooley is reckoned one of the finest bowling coaches in world cricket at the moment.?



He shaped out the English pacers to be a nightmare for the mighty Aussies during the 2005 Ashes, which is still considered one of his glorious coaching moments. Moreover, Cooley was present in the English cricketing setup and the success of Andrew Flintoff, Matthew Hoggard, Simon Jones and Steve Harmison is hugely ascribed to him.



"I would say one of the biggest success for both Sourav (Ganguly) and Jay (Shah) is to convince Troy Cooley to work with India's next batch of pacers at the National Cricket Academy (NCA)," a senior BCCI official privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.



As per the reports, Cooley is learnt to be awarded three year?s contract from BCCI and during these years, he will work closely with chief VVS Laxman to shape up the new set of Indian pacers.



"We are hearing that BCCI is giving Cooley a three-year contract and he will closely coordinate with head of Cricket VVS Laxman,? the senior official added.

The former Tasmania cricketer was soon called by Cricket Australia, after his success in the 2005 Ashes, where he worked until 2011. Later Cooley was again awarded a role by Cricket Australia at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.



<h2>BCCI's exclusive fast bowler's contract:</h2>



Besides this, the BCCI has also come up with a new idea to award exclusive contracts to a number of young pacers.?



With Indian senior test pacers such as Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami getting to the wrong end of their 30s, the cricket board wants the next crop of young Indian pacers to be groomed specifically for the role.



Troy Cooley and VVS Laxman will select around 10 young fast bowlers who will be given the exclusive fast bowlers contract. These players should not be known to the Indian setup.



It is noteworthy, the exclusive fast bowler?s contract has nothing to do with the central contract awarded by the BCCI to its most important players.

VVS Laxman assumes charge of NCA, shares first day at the office: Team India?s former batting stalwart VVS Laxman on Monday took charge of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore. Laxman shared a glimpse of his first workday at the NCA office as the head of the Academy.



Writing on Twitter, VVS posted: ?First day in office at the NCA! An exciting new challenge in store, look forward to the future and to working with the future of Indian cricket."

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a month ago, declared the designation of VVS Laxman as the chief of NCA. The development came after former chief Rahul Dravid was persuaded by the BCCI to take up the head coach?s role for India's men's senior team.



The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has always emphasised having former cricketers in the system to help cricket in India grow at a much faster pace.?

Further, the reports revealed that not only Sourav Ganguly, but Jay Shah, BCCI secretary and other few officials wanted Laxman to take the NCA charge following Dravid?s quit.



"Sourav and Jay both would love to have Laxman take up the NCA role. But yes, the final call obviously lies with the former India cricketer as he has a young family also. He is undoubtedly a front runner for the role and not to forget how he has been known to share a special bond with now coach Dravid. It will be the perfect combination to have those two work together towards taking Indian cricket forward. Nothing like having former cricketers coming on board to help produce the next generation of stars," the BCCI source had said.



As a part of the job, VVS Laxman has resigned from all his other media and broadcasting commitments. He will no longer be a part of any IPL franchise as a member of the support staff. Moreover, Laxman will have to stay in Bangalore for at least 200 days a year.

The former Indian head coach wasn't pleased with how a few of the top Indian players are getting injured frequently despite playing minimal cricket throughout the year. 



Notably, Shastri's sarcastic comments came after CSK pacer Deepak Chahar suffered another hamstring blow during the MI vs CSK fixture at the Wankhede Stadium. Chahar was seen limping while bowling his second over against Mumbai Indians, a couple of nights ago. He was immediately attended by the CSK physio and got the treatment.



Chahar returned back to the dressing room after completing his second over against MI and then never returned back. In fact, Deepak Chahar has missed CSK vs RR fixture as well.



Ravi Shastri reckons that it's unreal to see players getting injured again and again despite not playing consistent cricket.



?Let us put it in this way, there are quite a few players who have become permanent residents of the NCA. Soon they will get a residence permit there, to walk in any time they want. And it is not a good thing. It?s unreal," said Ravi Shastri on ESPNCricinfo digital video. 



"I mean you are not playing that much cricket to be injured again and again. You can?t even play four matches on the trot. Then why are you going to NCA for? I mean you come back and after three matches you are back there,??he added.



The seasoned broadcaster urged the cricketers to be fit enough to play decent cricket so that no one's time and money is wasted.



?Make sure you return fit and come back once and for all. It?s damn frustrating not just for the team but also for the players, BCCI and the captains of the various franchises. It?s annoying, to say the least."

National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore has a separate section for Sports Science and medical team to assist Indian cricketers with their rehabilitation. The medical team available there works comprehensively with the centrally contracted players to get them back on their best shape.



"I can understand a serious injury. But if after every four game someone touches the hamstring or his groin you start thinking about what is actually going on. And some of them don?t play any other cricket. I mean it?s just four overs and in three hours the game is over. It?s ridiculous,? concluded Ravi Shastri.



It's important to note that Ravi Shastri's frustration with Deepak Chahar is justified. Chahar was down for almost eight months in 2022 and even missed the IPL 2022 for CSK. He headed to NCA for rehab for a back injury but ended up suffering a hamstring injury there. He made his comeback in IPL 2023, but two games later, he was again seen touching his hamstring in pain.

Ishan Kishan to move NCA: As per recent reports, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and a few other contracted players will report to Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA) the following week to begin Strength &amp; Conditioning (S&amp;C)-related work before the Indian squad departs for an entire tour against the West Indies.



Ishan Kishan was one of the 15 players selected by India for their World Test Championship squad to face Australia at The Oval. However, when the playing XI was released, he did not make the cut as India stuck with KS Bharat.



Kishan has played a regular role for India in white-ball matches but is yet to make his Test debut. In the Indian Premier League 2023, the Southpaw had hot and cold spells but ultimately finished with 454 runs in 16 games.

The 24-year-old had the chance to play one game with the red ball before the Indian squad left for the Caribbean trip when the East Zone faces the Central Zone in the first quarterfinal. Especially with the incumbent KS Bharat unable to make an impact with the bat, the one-off game would have provided Kishan an opportunity to set up his case for being included in the Test team.

However, Kishan, who was expected to be India's wicketkeeper-batter in the WTC final preceding Bharat, had dropped out of the Duleep Trophy a few days before. His choice undoubtedly raises concerns about his ambition to play Test cricket and other formats for India.



Some cricket fans were baffled by Kishan's choice since many believed that participating in the domestic red-ball competition would have increased the wicketkeeper batsman's chances of being selected for India's Test XI in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

KL Rahul's absence will be a big blow for India as he is a key member of the Indian batting line-up, and his absence will make it difficult for India to find his replacement. Rahul provides more depth in the batting line-up and has good experience in international cricket.



India's Asia Cup campaign will start on September 2 with a high-voltage clash against Pakistan at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Then, Team India will play against Nepal on September 4 at the same venue.?

In KL Rahul's absence, Ishan Kishan will get a chance to play for Team India in the Asia Cup as a Wicket-Keeper Batsman. Ishan has played good cricket in the last few months, and he has been in great touch; he will be a good replacement for KL Rahul.



India will be hoping that Rahul recovers quickly and is available for the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2023. The tournament will be a good opportunity for India to test their bench strength and prepare for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Which will be played in India from October 5.

India will not have many games recently, especially until the Bangladesh team travels to India for the home series. Though with the current political unrest in Bangladesh, this series remains doubtful, yet India is gearing up for a home season, which will mostly include the games in the longest format of the game as a part of their WTC cycle. India in their recent loss have likely missed on several areas, but one of the major areas of concern has also been Siraj?s inability to produce wickets and hence the selectors as well as India?s new head coach in search of new players from the upcoming domestic seasons, which will be either the Ranji or Duleep Trophy which will be played later this year. One of India?s finest players, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_Shami">Mohammad Shami</a>, the right-arm pacer, India?s current most experienced pacer, is likely recovering from his injury at the National Cricket Academy.  Following his surgery, Mohammad Shami not only missed games for his national side but also missed an entire season for the Gujarat Titans, as a result of which he was also not seen for India in their T20 World Cup triumph. Shami in the last Cricket World Cup played 7 games for India and was not a part of the team initially, though was included when Pandya was ruled out due to injury. He went on to pick 24 wickets at an alarming rate of 12.20, averaging almost 10.70.

Before the Sri Lanka series, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajit_Agarkar">Ajit Agarkar</a> had accepted that Shami was recovering from injuries and he had started to bowl in the nets. The chief selector also made a bold claim, as he said Shami, Siraj, and Bumrah have been around for some time and are hence the obvious picks. Shami is currently in his final stages of rehab, though nothing has been confirmed by the BCCI or even the NCA members. If he recovers, Shami has shown interest in first starring for his state team of Bengal before making a return to the national side.

 Even if Shami misses the Bangladesh or New Zealand home series, he would still have plenty of time left to make a probable comeback as the Australian tour, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is scheduled later in November, after the Kiwi home series ends on November 5th. Only after the Aussie series can he be back for the Indian side in the England tour, playing across multiple formats, as India eye to prepare him for both the Champions Trophy and the WTC final later in June the coming year in 2025.

Legendary Indian batter and former coach of the national side, Rahul Dravid, in one of his recent interviews with the press, threw light on how the Indian team is ever-growing with their unique scope of talent that flows from different parts of India. Dravid coached the Indian team to the World Cup finals in 2023 and also the T20 World Cup final that they won in the Caribbean. However, before turning in as the Team India coach, Dravid has been an eminent part who helped in the growth of Indian cricket. Rahul was India?s coach for the U-19 team for a long time, as he also won the U-19 World Cup and gave India the scope of talented players like Shubman Gill and also <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prithvi_Shaw">Prithvi Shaw</a> and Abhishek Sharma. Rahul Dravid, the veteran, served as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for a long time, as he sighted talent in many players and also helped many players rehabilitate and also served massively to their betterment.

 "If you look at Indian cricket today, Indian cricket is extremely strong; it's extremely powerful," Dravid said during the 50-year celebration of Mount Joy Cricket Club. "One of the big reasons for that is that talent comes from everywhere, from all over the country."
