T20 World Cup 2024: The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup is all set to take place this year, in June 2024, in the Caribbean Islands and the United States of America. A total of 20 teams will participate in this year's mega event, and 5 teams per group have been divided into 4 groups. The top two teams from their respective groups will qualify for the Super 8 stage.



2021 T20 World Cup winners Australia is part of Group B, which consists of arch-rivals and defending champions England, Oman, Scotland, and Namibia. The Aussies will play a total of four matches in the group stage as they begin their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign against Oman on June 5 in Barbados.



They will face arch-rivals and defending champions England on the 8th of June in Barbados as well, and their third group stage match against Namibia will take place on the 11th of June at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The Men in Yellow will end their group stage with a match against Scotland on June 15 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia.

The 2021 T20 World Cup winners managed to qualify directly for this year's T20 World Cup, along with reigning champion England, runner-up Pakistan, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. Australia are regarded as the most successful team in terms of World Cups, as they have managed to lift the ODI World Cup six times and the T20 World Cup in 2021 by defeating New Zealand in the final.



The Men in Yellow had a tremendous 2023, as they managed to win the 2023 World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Aussies would be looking to continue their good form by winning this year's T20 World Cup.



Before their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign begins, the Aussies will host the Windies for two test matches, three ODI's, and three T20i?s. They will then travel to New Zealand in February for three T20i's and two Test matches.

T20 World Cup 2024: The ninth edition of the ICC T20 World Cup will start on June 1, 2024, in the West Indies and the United States of America. A total of 20 teams will fight it out against each other to get their hands on the precious T20 World Cup Trophy. The matches of this year's T20 World Cup will be played in three venues in the USA and six venues in the Caribbean Islands.



The opening match of the 2024 T20 World Cup will take place between Co-Hosts USA and Canada in Dallas, while the El-Cl?sico of Cricket?India vs Pakistan will take place on the 9th of June at the newly built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island, New York.



This year, some changes have been made in the format of the T20 World Cup, as the 20 participating teams will be divided into 4 groups of 5 teams each. India and Pakistan are part of Group A, along with Ireland, Canada, and the USA.



Defending Champions England are part of Group B which consists of Arch - Rivals Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman. Group C consists of Co - hosts West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Uganda while Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are a part of Group D along with South Africa, Nepal and the Netherlands.



The teams which manage to finish in the top two of each group will qualify for the Super - eight stage where the qualified teams will get divided into 2 groups which will consist of four teams each. The Super - 8 draw will be decided on the basis of pre - tournament seedings of the participating teams and their finishing positions of 1st and 2nd in the group stage will not be considered for the Super - 8 draw. Each participating team will have a fixed group for the Super - 8 stage at the start of the tournament.



The teams which finish in the top 2 of their respective Super - 8 group will qualify for the Semi - Finals and the winners of Semi Final 1 &amp; 2 will compete against each other in the FINAL of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

The secretary of BCCI, Jay Shah, has made a huge announcement that opening batter Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start in June, and the West Indies and the USA will play host to this year?s mega event. Shah has even made a promise to the fans that the Indian team will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup Trophy and end the trophy drought of 11 years. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Blue Army managed to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and finished as the runners-up in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Indian team?s last ICC Tournament triumph was in 2013, when the Men in Blue won the 2023 Champions Trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Following the defeat in the 2023 World Cup Final against Australia, there were rumours that the BCCI might appoint All-Rounder Hardik Pandya as the captain for this year?s T20 World Cup. But, Hardik has not completely recovered from the ankle injury he suffered during the World Cup match against Bangladesh, which forced him to miss the three-match T20i series against Afghanistan, and his injury struggles have led to the BCCI allowing Rohit to continue with his leadership duties for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

In what comes as a huge blow to the Gujarat Titans, star pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the IPL 2024 due to a left ankle injury that requires immediate surgery. Shami is the leader of the Gujarat Titan?s pace bowling unit. His getting ruled out comes as a huge blow to the franchise, as they already lost the services of former captain Hardik Pandya, who joined the Mumbai Indians in a trade deal. Opener Shubman Gill has taken over the leadership duties of the Gujarat based team following Hardik?s departure.



The Titans have performed really well since their arrival in the Indian Premier League in 2022. They won the IPL 2022 in their debut season, and last year, they reached the final, where they lost against MS Dhoni?s CSK in a last-ball thriller. Since their arrival in the league, Shami has played a really important role in Gujarat?s success in the IPL. The speedster picked up 20 wickets in IPL 2022 and improved even more last year when he managed to get 28 scalps at an outstanding average of 18.64.



GT has not made any official announcement regarding the replacement for Shami, but they can pick a replacement from the list of players who went unsold during the 2024 IPL auction. The only condition is that the replacement?s base price cannot exceed the base price of Mohammed Shami (2 crore Indian rupees).

The 33-year old seamer, who is not a part of the Indian team?s squad for the ongoing test series against England, last played for the Men in Blue in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in November last year.



?He (Mohammed Shami) was in London in the last week of January in order to take special ankle injections, and he was informed after three weeks that he could start doing light running and carry forward from there on.



?But the injections have not yielded any kind of results, and the only option left for him is surgery. He will shortly leave for the UK to get the surgery done on his left ankle. He is for sure not going to play any part in the IPL 2024,? a senior BCCI figure told PTI.



This recent development has raised concerns regarding the NCA?s injury rehabilitation management programme. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also struggled with a lot of injuries in the past, and he visited the NCA for treatment, but whenever he took the field, he got injured continuously and kept on visiting the NCA again and again.



Shami is a doubt for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, and his surgery will require quite a long time to heal properly. He won?t return before India?s home test match series against New Zealand and Bangladesh (October?November).

The stop-clock is set to become permanent in all ODIs and T20Is from June 2024, starting with the ICC Men?s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.



60 seconds of the stop-clock are set to become permanent from the T20 World Cup 2024. This rule will be applied in One Day Internationals and T20 cricket as well. The ICC Men?s T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off on the specified date in the West Indies and USA.



Starting from the first match of the T20 World Cup, teams will be given 60 seconds to start the next over. Initially, two warnings will be given, with a 5-run penalty imposed on the third instance.

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi wanted seamer Mohammad Amir to reverse his retirement decision and play in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, and his wish has been granted as Mohammed Amir decided to come out of retirement on March 24 and made himself available for selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup.



?I still dream to play cricket for Pakistan. Some positive discussions took place between the Pakistan Cricket Board officials and myself, and they made me feel that Pakistan Cricket needs me and that I can still play cricket for Pakistan.? Amir wrote on his X handle.



Mohammed Amir was in fabulous form in the recently concluded PSL 2024. Given the form he is in and the experience he carries, it's almost certain that he will be picked in Pakistan?s 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. It will be a joy for the Pakistani fans to witness the trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammed Amir, and Naseem Shah handing the pace bowling unit of the Shaheens in the 2024 T20 World Cup.



The upcoming ten T20 international matches will be really important for the likes of Azam Khan, Saim Ayub, and Mohammed Haris as some good innings and a good wicket-taking spell can help these players secure their spots in the Pakistan World Cup squad.



Last month, the central contract of pacer Haris Rauf was terminated by the PCB due to his refusal to participate in Pakistan's test series against Australia since the test matches clashed with the matches of the Big Bash League. But on March 24th, the PCB reinstated the central contract of the 30-year-old, meaning that Rauf will be available for selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup.



Recently, a UAE cricketer of Pakistani origin, Usman Khan, was called up by the PCB for the training camp, which is currently ongoing and will end on April 8th.

Recently, Babar Azam was reappointed as the white ball captain of Pakistan, replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi in that position. There's a lot of controversy regarding this news, but Pakistani fans would be hoping that under the leadership of Babar Azam, the Men in Green would hopefully go on to lift their second T20 World Cup trophy.

The Pakistan National Cricket Team, under the leadership of the reappointed Babar Azam, is set to play three T20 International Series against formidable opponents ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.



The Men in Green will host New Zealand for a five match T20 International Series from 18th April. The first three T20i?s will be played at Rawalpindi?s Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on 18th, 20th and 21st April. The two sides will then travel to the Gaddafi Stadium of Lahore for the remaining two games.



Post the conclusion of the New Zealand series, the Shaheens will then travel to Ireland for a three match T20i series in May. All the matches of the Ireland series will be played at Dublin?s Castle Avenue Cricket Ground. The series will start from 10th May followed by the second T20i on 12th May. The final match will take place on 14th May.



Following the conclusion of the T20i series against Ireland, Pakistan will travel to England from 22nd May to 30th May for their final T20i assignment before the 2024 T20 World Cup.



The Three Lions and the Shaheens will play four games against each other in the cities of Birmingham, Leeds, London and Cardiff.

2024 T20 World Cup: Owing to their magnificent touch and form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, India's batting maestro Virat Kohli and glovesman Rishabh Pant are almost certain to be included in India's 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The two aforementioned players have made big advancements in their selection, which was in question earlier.



Virat Kohli, who has been on the radar for a poor strike rate over the years, has silenced everyone with his current form. The batter has amassed 316 runs in just 5 innings, which includes a century. He has maintained a strike rate of 145.29 so far.



With such a sublime form, Virat Kohli's place in India's 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup is almost confirmed, given nothing drastic happens in the coming few weeks, as the BCCI think-tank observes the probable players. 



Interestingly, wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has also stormed back into the scheme of things after he made his comeback in the IPL 2024. Being out of cricket for more than a year, Rishabh seems to have stolen the limelight with his performances. 



The Delhi Capitals' wicketkeeper has piled up 153 runs, which includes a 25-ball 55-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders, in five outings at a strike rate of 154.55.



As per the report published on <a href="https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/130115/rishabh-pant-marching-ahead-in-selection-race">Cricbuzz</a>, Rishabh Pant is placed ahead of his competitors for the 2024 T20 World Cup selection. Moreover, the selectors seem to be pleased with his performances so far.



The report added that should Rishabh extend his form throughout the TATA IPL 2024, and nothing bizarre happens, he is almost certain to board a place for the US and the West Indies.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">India's 2024 T20 World Cup Selection Challenges</h2>

Selectors' biggest challenge would be to somehow fit Shubman Gill in the squad. With the presence of skipper Rohit Sharma, who is likely to open with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill's opening prospects are very slim. Moreover, with Kohli almost confirmed at number three, the team gets in a position of fix to include in the playing11.



However, he is likely to be named in the squad as a backup opener.



Yuzvendra Chahal is also a big question for the Indian selectors for the 2024 T20 World Cup. While Kuldeep Yadav seems to be the frontrunner and Axar Patel slotted next to him, due to his superior batting skills, Chahal's chances of making it into the playing11 look slim, unless he does some magic in the IPL 2024.



In the pace bowling department, the biggest question for the Indian selectors would be whether to keep Mayank Yadav in the squad or not. The LSG pacer has kept everyone on their toes with his raw pace that can clock more than 150kmph.



His bowling has brought a wave of excitement among the cricket fans, who seem to be impressed by the youngster. Though currently he is lying a bit low due to a side strain, his name has certainly cast a shadow of doubt on the selector's mind.

2024 T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli's future with Team India in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup has received a major boost after the batter once again proved his worth in gold during the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli, reportedly, is almost a certainty in the Indian squad for the World Cup, however, his RCB teammate Glenn Maxwell says, "India don't pick him (for T20 World Cup)."



Notably, Virat Kohli's stocks in the T20s took an upward movement following his brilliant performances in the ongoing IPL 2024. The RCB batter has already piled up 319 runs in 6 innings so far, which includes a fine ton as well.



Though, his form has never been an issue, what has come up as a glaring problem according to the experts is his strike rate. Kohli's unbeaten century knock against Rajasthan Royals (RR) was criticised by many for a low strike rate. He scored 113* runs in 72 deliveries at a strike rate of 156.94.



Lauding the heroics of Virat Kohli, his RCB teammate Glenn Maxwell believes the Indian batter is one of the most clutch players he has ever played against.

The innings he played against us in Mohali during the 2016 T20 World Cup is still the best innings I have ever seen been played against me. His awareness of what he needs to do to win the game is just phenomenal.? Maxwell said while talking to ESPN.

However, the Aussie jokingly added, "I hope India doesn't pick him (for the T20 World Cup) because it will be great to not come up against him."



Maxwell, though, conceded that the pressure on Virat Kohli is justifiable and there's nothing surprising about it. He added that from a country of 1.5 billion people, the competition is huge and to get selected in the final 15 is phenomenal.



?It's not surprising because there are 1.5 billion (people in India) and I reckon half of them are unbelievable cricketers in this country (laughs). It's a hard team to get into. You look at India's top T20 players who are all playing in this tournament (IPL 2024). They are phenomenal players and there should be heat on every player,? Maxwell added.?



India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad is anticipated to be announced in the first week of May. 2024 T20 World Cup: With May 1 set as the deadline for the announcement of the squads of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly shortlisted 20 players who will represent India in the World Cup event in the Caribbean and the USA. Team India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad will be led by Rohit Sharma.



As per the reports, the Indian selection committee is betting on experience and consistency rather than going with the players' few blitz exploits in the current IPL 2024. 



The Indian squad is unlikely to have any surprise element in it, as tried and tested players are expected to be picked in the 15-member squad. The 5-member reserves list as well will have players who have performed consistently over the years in T20Is.



The big question in front of the Indian selection panel would be the pick between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. If both the batters walk into the side, then the selectors will have to chop either Rinku Singh or Shivam Dube off the squad.



Another tight call for the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel would be the choice in the wicketkeeping role. The likes of Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are all in the fray, however, only one of them alongside Rishabh Pant will make his cut into the Indian side for the 2024 T20 World Cup.



While Hardik Pandya's form remains a concern for everyone, he is very likely to walk into the Indian side even if he isn't at the top of his fitness. At this point, the Indian talent pool isn't able to provide a worthy replacement for Hardik, who hasn't been at the top of his bowling fitness as of now. 



Besides these selection conundrums, there are a few automatic selections for Team India. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh will get their tickets for the World Cup 2024.
