India Cricket Team might have a new coach after the T20 World Cup 2024 with Rahul Dravid making way for someone else. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to invite applications for the post of head coach after the tournament and they are keen to have a long-term coach for the team.

Rahul Dravid’s tenure as a head coach is all set to end after the T20 World Cup 2024. The head coach was appointed for a two-year contract originally, which was set to end after the ICC World Cup 2023. However, he was given an extension till the next event, which will be played in June.

As per the various reports it is learned that BCCI is not keen to appoint different coaches in different formats. They want to rope in the candidate to whom they can offer a long-term deal for coaching in all three formats of the game.

Jay Shah revealed that they will be calling applications in the next week. He stated that if Rahul Dravid wants to continue he has to fill in the applications. He added that if CAC wants to rope in a foreign coach they can. Speaking to the media, he said:

“We will call for applications in the next few days. Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end in June. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years. There is no precedent of different coaches for different formats in Indian cricket.

“Besides, we have several all-format players. Ultimately, it will be the Cricket Advisory Committee’s (CAC’s) call. I have to implement what they decide. If the CAC selects a foreign coach, I can’t interfere.”

We have spoken about (it with) the ICC for 2027. There are only three main Test centres — India, England, and Australia. You cannot hold it in Australia during that window or even in India. Even in Bengaluru, it rains during that time,” he concluded.
