T20 World Cup 2024: Discussions regarding the 2024 T20 World Cup match between arch rivals India and Pakistan have already begun, even though the match scheduled to take place on the 9th of June in the city of New York.
The main question regarding this intense clash is what will be the type of the pitch, as the the Nassau County Cricket Stadium has been built on a temporary basis and is going to host a match of such a high stature for the first time.
According to some news reports, the pitch of New York’s Nassau County Cricket Stadium will be similar to the Adelaide Oval. The stadium of New York has been specially built for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
T20 World Cup’s CEO Brett Jones said that constructing a temporary stadium involves a lot of challenges as the builders had to encounter a record level of rainfall and cold temperatures.
Brett Jones further mentioned that the idea of using a temporary stadium was taken from Formula One and Olympic Games. The type of infrastructure used in these events is the one which is going to be used for the 2024 T20 World Cup as well. People who have the experience of working with this type of infrastructure for 25 to 30 years have been shortlisted and assigned to work on this ground.
Jones further added that the drop in technology has been used for the pitch of the Nassau County Cricket Stadium with the assistance of Damian Hoff – expert curator of the Adelaide Oval. The drop in pitches were prepared in the warm climate of the city of Florida and will be sent to New York before the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Brett Jones also went on to mention that he believes the wickets of New York will play just like the wickets of the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Adelaide Oval. The pitches of the Adelaide Oval offer a balanced support to the batters and the bowlers and have a good track record in T20i Cricket and the wickets of New York are expected to play similarly.
It’s worth noting that this year’s mega event will commence on 2nd June as Co – hosts USA will lock horns against Canada in the opening game, while fellow hosts West Indies will begin their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign against Papua New Guinea in the city of Guyana on day two of the World Cup.
