Mahmudullah has not been in the best of form and team director Khalid Mahmood Sujon said the all-rounder has not performed as per expectations in the last few months. Earlier this year, Mahmudullah was also removed as the captain of the Bangladesh T20I team. After making a comeback in three years, Sabbir Rahman, who played only one match in the Asia Cup, has retained his place in the team.

Recently in T20 Asia Cup 2022, Bangladesh failed to win a single game and also to qualify for the super-4 stage of the event.

All-rounder Mahedi Hasan played in the Asia Cup but failed to make a place in the World Cup squad. He has been included in the standby players along with left-hander Soumya Sarkar, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and left-armed Shoriful Islam. Yasir Ali Chowdhury and Hasan Mahmud were also included in the squad after they recovered from injuries.
Recently, Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hasan Papon said that “Bangladesh is focussing on the next edition of the World Cup, not the upcoming one.”
