South Africa vs England 1st ODI called off due to Covid Threat.

South Africa vs England 1st ODI: The first ODI between SOouth Africa and England was called off due to the increasing Covid-19 threat. Reportedly two of the staff members from the visitor’s hotel tested positive after the PCR tests held on Saturday.

A decision is yet to be confirmed whether two remaining ODIs will be played or not on Monday and Wednesday.

1st ODI fixture between South Africa and England was initially scheduled for Friday however due to covid threat in South Africa’s camp, it was rescheduled for Sunday. But it looks like nothing is going their way.

Managing Director ECB:

The English players have undergone an additional round of PCR tests on Saturday evening, after two staff members from visitors hotel staff tested positive for the Covid-19 infection,” ECB statement.

In the meantime, ECB awaits for the rectification of those tests results, the decision has been taken to delay the start of today’s One Day International match,” said ECB official.

This is a regretful situation for both sides. But for us, the main concern is our player’s and staff members’ safety. We are in close dialogue with Cricket South Africa on how to deal with the situation. And surely will come forward with better options to carry our further goals,” Managing Director, ECB.

With the two unconfirmed cases of a novel coronavirus, the number goes up to seven in the six-match white ball series. Two of those happening in the host’s camp before the start of the series while five in the bio-secure environment.

General Manager Vineyard Hotel:

At this stage, it is a really disappointing thing to take place. We are still searching how covid infected staff members, as none of them have left the bio-secure environment from 16th November,” Roy Davies, General Manager Vineyard Hotel where the teams are staying.

Our Covid-19 response team is going after all the facts and contact tracing is underway.”

It will be a huge blow for Cricket South Africa if the series get canceled following Covid tensions. South Africa’s future trips might get affected if this happens.
