Shaheen Afridi and PCB exposed: Real reason behind Mohammad Rizwan shocking snub revealed
The real reason behind Mohammad Rizwan's snub from the Pakistan ODI Captaincy has been revealed. The shocking report from TOI claims that the snub might have been the result of the former skipper refusing to promote betting companies.
The Pakistan Cricket Board made a sudden call out of the blue to dismiss Mohammad Rizwan from Captaincy and leading to the appointment of the 25-year-old pacer Shaheen Afridi as the skipper in the ODI format. Shan Masood and Salman Agha have been retained for the other two formats for now.
Initially, it was said that Mike Hesson, the new white-ball coach, made the decision after Pakistan was knocked out of the ICC Champions Trophy at home without winning a single game in the competition. But as of now, some recent reports from the Times of India have reported otherwise, and the revelations will shock anyone.
Why was Mohammad Rizwan replaced by Shaheen Afridi? Revealed
The Times of India reported through their sources that Mohammad Rizwan's removal from ODI captaincy was due to his refusal to promote betting companies on his jersey. He did take such a step on another previous occasion.
As he played in the CPL for the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, he refused to endorse the logo of the main sponsor on his jersey and played donning a jersey without the main sponsor's logo. This was done since the logo was part of a surrogate company associated with an online betting firm.
The PCB has also entered into several deals with some of the minor companies that are associated with activities related to cricket betting.
"Rizwan had informed the PCB that he wouldn’t endorse betting companies, which is the main reason behind his sacking. He was against the PCB’s collaboration with surrogate betting firms," a PCB source tracking the development told TimesofIndia.com.
In another scheme of things, a former Pakistan player, Rashid Latif, had issued another controversial remark claiming that having a non-Islamic skipper in an Islamic country is a bad idea, as a result of which Rizwan was sacked following his remarks on Palestine.
"If he has spoken about Palestine, will you remove him from captaincy?" said Latif on his YouTube channel Caught Behind.
"This mindset that there would be non-Islamic captains in an Islamic country is abysmal," he added.
