Hours after orange reigned supreme in Australia, the colour found a new home in Cape Town. Sunrisers Eastern Cape extended their growing dynasty by winning their third SA20 title in four finals, defeating Pretoria Capitals by six wickets.
Pretoria Capitals rode on a sensational 101 off 56 balls from Dewald Brevis. Marco Jansen’s spell of 3/10, including a double-wicket maiden in the death overs, pulled the Capitals back to a defendable but underwhelming 158/7.
The chase looked tricky for long periods. But Tristan Stubbs (63) and Matthew Breetzke (68) flipped the script with a blistering 114-run unbeaten partnership. Once the Capitals’ spinners were exhausted, the finishing overs belonged entirely to the batters. Stubbs sealed the title with back-to-back sixes, delivering his first fifty of the season on the grandest stage.
