Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) New Captain in IPL 2022: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hasn’t been the luckiest side in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite having some of the finest cricketers under the same hood, the franchise failed to bag the IPL title even once. The last few seasons has been nothing short of a sheer disappointment for the Bangalore based IPL franchise where they came so close to the IPL glory yet failed to achieve it.

The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a transitioning phase for the team in red. There will be several changes in the squad. The management will have to bring in new players and form a formidable new outfit from the scratch.

However, there will be a much bigger task for the RCB to accomplish, which is to find an apt skipper for the team who can don Virat Kohli’s shoes and lead the team.

For the unversed, Virat Kohli, prior to the start of the second leg of the IPL 2021, announced that he will no longer lead RCB from IPL 2022. The IPL 2021 would be his final assignment with the team as the skipper, however, he will remain associated with the franchise as the batsman.

The onus on the RCB management will be much bigger and challenging as finding an individual matchable to Virat’s energy and enthusiasm will be a tough task.

It will be interesting for the fans to watch how RCB tackles this problem and comes up with a solution or rather a new captain. Ahead of all that, we have brought to you probable players who can be Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) new captain in IPL 2022.

Glenn Maxwell:

Australian opener batsman Glenn Maxwell is a top contender to lead RCB in the IPL 2022. Maxwell is retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming season for a massive INR 11 Crores along with Virat Kohli and Mohammad Siraj.

The all-rounder was impressive for Bangalore in the IPL 2021 where he scored the bulk of runs for the team. He performed under-pressure more often than not and proved to be a valuable asset to the team.

Former RCB skipper, Daniel Vittori reckons Glenn Maxwell will be the successor of Virat Kohli.

“Look, I think Maxwell will be the likely heir to Kohli. He obviously produced [results] in this last year and he was an exceptional player for them. He has the experience of captaining the Melbourne Stars. We talked about most teams wanting to find a captain in their retained players. It has happened too often that teams know they’ve got a captain, they know they can lock that away and they don’t have to find one in the auction which can cloud your thinking at times,” said Daniel Vittori.

“I do believe Maxwell will be named captain. It could be [for] just one season, to see how it goes but it’s a pretty good stop-gap measure as they build to the future,” Vettori added.

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsman Manish Pandey is also in contention to become RCB’s new skipper. Manish Pandey was associated with the RCB back in 2009 and was a vital cog in RCB’s lineup back then.

The Karnataka batsman has also good experience in leading his domestic side in Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy which could be one reason to prompt RCB to go towards Manish Pandey.

Close sources say that Pandey can also be RCB’s game-changer at number 3 in the batting order. He can be a daunting force for the franchise in the IPL 2022. When paired alongside Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, Pandey can demolish the opposition.

Jason Holder: (Jason Holder sold to Lucknow Super Giants)

West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder will be a good choice for the captaincy of RCB in the IPL 2022. Holder was associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the recently concluded IPL 2021.

The all-rounder featured in 8 IPL matches in 2021 and scored 85 runs. Moreover, he scalped 16 wickets at a decent economy of 7.75.

Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra feels that RCB should consider Jason Holder as a strong captaincy candidate.

“For RCB, Jason Holder is also an option for captaincy. They need to buy a new captain and it could be Holder. When I think about the pitch over there and other things, I think Holder could be a valuable player. He does well in all the teams.”

The other probable names could be Shreyas Iyer, David Warner and KL Rahul, however, the availability of these players is highly unlikely.
