India vs England 1st T20I: Rohit Sharma to open with KL Rahul, says Virat Kohli

India vs England 1st T20I: Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Thursday clarified that Rohit Sharma along with KL Rahul will be the team’s first-choice openers going ahead in the five-game T20I series, starting Friday. Virat also made it clear that Ashwin, who performed brilliantly in the recent tests series, will not be in the white ball fixtures till things are going good with Washington Sundar.

Team India will begin their ICC T20 World Cup campaign with the five games T20I series with England. Much ahead of the World Cup, Kohli hints at the probable team combination.

“If Rohit plays and is fit, he will be there along with KL Rahul. Both have been consistently performing well in the middle. If any of these takes rest or some injury concerns arise, Shikhar Dhawan will come up,” Virat Kohli said in the recent video conference.

Virat Kohli also cleared that till the time Washington Sundar is doing well for India, there will be no room for Ashwin or any other player of the same discipline.

“Washington is doing the job for us. So you can’t have two players of the same discipline in the team. Until Washington has a drastic season, this is not going to happen.”

Varun Chakravarthy once again failed in fitness test:

Talking about Varun Chakravarthy, Virat Kohli sent a loud and clear message to the young players aspiring to play for India.

Mystery Spinner Varun Chakravarthy after a successful IPL 2020 season was picked on the Australia tour. However, later it was revealed that the player is having a shoulder injury post which he was ruled out of the whole tour. He did his rehab at NCA Bangalore and has not played any national-level cricket since then.

Upon getting recovered from his shoulder injury, Chakravarthy went for a fitness test however, he could not clear YoYo (17.1) and 2KM run in eight minutes.

“Look individuals need to understand the system that has been created for the Indian Cricket Team.”

“We should operate at a very high level of fitness and skills that is why this Indian team is at the top of the ladder when playing cricket.”

“We would expect players to go with the rules and what’s required to come in the Indian cricket team and hopefully no compromise is done with the standards.”
