India captain Rohit Sharma spoke about the possibility of him and Virat Kohli opening in the T20 World Cup 2024. The senior opener stated that so far they haven’t discussed anything about it and all the reports that are emerging are not true so far. 

After the ongoing IPL 2024, the focus will be on the T20 World Cup 2024, which starts 5 days after the IPL concludes. The ongoing tournament is keeping everyone excited and it’s fair to say that BCCI selectors will be keeping a keen eye on Indian players for the World Cup. 

Recently some reports emerged that India will be opening with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup 2024. The duo has been magnificent with the bat while opening the batting for their respective franchises in the league and are among the top run-getters in IPL 2024 so far.

However, with all the speculations about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening the innings in the T20 World Cup, skipper Sharma said that they haven’t decided anything yet and stated that until and unless they confirm things, they are all fake. Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, he stated: 

“We haven’t met so far, we haven’t decided who’ll open at the World Cup (on him and Kohli opening). In today’s age, until and unless you don’t hear from me, Rahul bhai or Ajit bhai, everything else is fake”. 

India will be heading into the tournament with a lot of selection problems. There have been quite a few players who have been performing well and are hard to leave out. The ongoing few matches of the IPL will be extremely important for all the Indian players who are in contention for the World Cup.

Recently reports emerged that BCCI has already shortlisted 20 players for the T20 World Cup 2024. Out of these players, 15 will make it into the main squad while the rest 5 will travel with the team as reserves. 

Here are India’s probable 20 players with 15 in the squad and 5 stand-bys for T20 World Cup 2024: 

Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wk), KL Rahul, Sanju Samson (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan.
