Team India’s head coach opened about the participation of the senior players in the Test cricket held in Australia. Ravi Shastri in conversation with ABC sports told that Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma need to arrive on Australian soil for participation in the upcoming historic test series.
Both the veteran players are currently under rehab at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore headed by director Rahul Dravid. Rohit Sharma was ruled out by the left hamstring injury in the match against Kings XI Punjab which subsequently went for double super over. However the speedster, Ishant Sharma was sent to rehab due to side strain in the first match of Delhi Capitals.
Both the talented cricketers have been seen practicing at NCA.
Shastri on Rohit Sharma:
“Rohit is going through some tests at NCA and that will decide how long he needs to take a break. But things will start becoming difficult once he is asked to wait for too long, because then you are talking of the quarantine again, which might make it really tough for even him to come just in time for the Test series.”
After reaching the host country, Australia both the player, who is currently at NCA, will have to undergo 14 days mandatory quarantine period. Team India will play 3 days warm up test on December 11. Therefore to complete the isolation period to play the warm-up test, both the player needs to make sure they arrive in Australia by November 26.
Shastri told that “Rohit was never going to play the limited over series against Australia, they were just looking how much rest is needed to recover fully. You cannot afford to take a long rest. If they are to play the longest format or the red/pink ball series they got to be in flight in the next three-four days.”
Ravi Shastri on Ishant Sharma:
Shastri on Ishant Sharma,” The similar case to Rohit Sharma. You don’t really know how quickly he will be given permission to fly. Like I said earlier, if you need to play the test series, you need to be here in the next three-four days’ time.”
Rohit Sharma during his interview few days back said that he is completely fine now. He is recovering very well. Some work needs to be done and I am ready to go.
The dashing opener also talked about his role in the test matches. He said, he is prepared to play at any given position. I know how to bounce back once left out.
India and Australia will lock horns for three ODIs followed by the equal number of T20Is and to wrap the tour four essential test matches.
