IPL 2021: KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings to fly to the UAE on 29th August for Vivo IPL 2021

Vivo IPL 2021 PBKS vs RCB: Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered third win, defeating RCB by 34 runs.

Vivo IPL 2021: Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Friday registered their third win of the fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 34 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The Punjab skipper KL Rahul played a captain’s knock, remained unbeaten on 91 from 57 balls while Harpreet Brar pulled up an all-round show, scoring 25 from the bat and scalped three crucial wickets.

Opting to bat later, Virat Kohli and Co. were given 179 runs to chase and win the game by Punjab Kings.

Reiley Meredith gave an early shock to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he removed southpaw Devdutt Padikkal with his extra pace after going for a six in the previous delivery.

Kohli was joined by Rajat Patidar after the dismissal of Devdutt Padikkal. Both of them took RCB to 36 runs in the powerplay. 

In the 11th over, Harpreet Brar picked his maiden IPL wicket in Virat Kohli. RCB skipper was bowled after scoring 35 from 34 balls. In the very next delivery, Brar scalped Glenn Maxwell’s wicket on a golden duck to put RCB on complete backfoot.

RCB were reduced to 62-3 in 10.2 overs.

In his subsequent over, dangerous looking Harpreet Brar picked up AB de Villiers and sealed the game for his side.

Rajat Patidar hit a couple of boundaries to release the pressure however Chris Jordan in 15th over picked him. Patidar returned after scoring 31 runs from 30 balls.

At the backend, Harshal Patel and Kyle Jamieson tried to pull up the things however it was too late by then. Patel amassed quickfire 31 off 13 with the help of three fours and two sixes while Jamieson scored 16 off 11.

RCB lost the game by 34 runs to Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they could only manage to score 145-8 in 20 overs after winning the toss.

Forced to bat first, Punjab Kings had a good start to the innings as both KL Rahul and Prabhsimran Singh scored a couple of good hits.

The happy times for Prabhsimran could not last longer as he was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson in the 4th over.

Universe Boss Chris Gayle coming to bat at number 3 looked in destruction mode as he clubbed five boundaries in the last over of the powerplay off Kyle Jamieson.

Both KL Rahul and Chris Gayle dominated the bowlers and smacked them all around the park at Narendra Modi Stadium. 

Gayle smashed two sixes off Yuzvendra Chahal to bring up the fifty partnership for the second wicket in just 26 balls.

Keeping the scoring rate nearly 10, Chris Gayle scored 46 off 24 before getting caught behind to AB de Villiers off Daniel Sams. He tonked two sixes and six fours in his blistering innings.

The poor show for Nicholas Pooran continued as he recorded his fourth duck of the Vivo IPL 2021. Kyle Jamieson taking the advantage of height dismissed Pooran for a third ball duck.

RCB spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Shahbaz Ahmad picked up two back to back wickets of Shahrukh Khan and Deepak Hooda to get the grip of the game.

However, KL Rahul from the other end provided timely tonks to the RCB bowlers. Rahul along with Harpreet Brar accelerated the innings in the death overs and amassed 179 runs in 20 overs.

Rahul remained unbeaten on 91 from 57 balls with the help of seven fours and five sixes while Harpreet Brar from the other end scored unbeaten 25 off 17 balls including two sixes and a four.

Harpreet Brar was rewarded as the “Man of the Match” for his brilliant all round show.
