PSL 2026: PCB Likely to Shift Matches as Players Raise Safety Concerns

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 is set to begin on March 26, 2026, but just a few days before the start of the tournament, uncertainty has emerged around the schedule and venues. As per the reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has to make last-minute changes due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.

The regional tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have raised concerns among the players, teams and fans, especially the international players. Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen were about to play the opening match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 on March 26, 2026, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Why PSL 2026 Schedule May Change?

The main reason behind the possible change of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 schedule is the rising tension near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Cities like Peshawar in Pakistan are considered sensitive zones as they are quite close to the ongoing conflict area.

One of the matches scheduled in Peshawar is now under serious doubt. The game between Peshawar Zalmi and Rawalpindi Pindiz at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium on March 28, 2026. However, due to the security risk, this match is likely to be shifted to another venue.

Australian Players Raise Concern:

A major factor behind the potential changes is the concern raised by the Australian Players participating in the PSL 2026. Players like Marnus Labuschagne, David Warner and Adam Zampa are part of the different franchises in the Pakistan Super League.

Due to the travel advisories issued by the Australian government, some of the players may choose not to play matches in high-risk areas like Peshawar. This is the key reason that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is now pressured to make sudden changes in the schedule and venues of the Pakistan Super League.

Possible Venue Change:

If the matches are shifted to the PSL 2026, the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is likely to be the alternative venue. It's also the home ground of the Rawalpindi Pindiz, so hosting matches would be a better idea, as it also offers better security arrangements compared to Peshawar.
