County Championship 2023: As per the latest development young Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw has signed a deal with Northamptonshire to feature in the remainder of the County Championship and the upcoming Royal London One Day Cup in England. Shaw will join his English county side following the completion of the Duleep Trophy in India.

Northamptonshire features in the County Championship Division One and has lost six of its seven matches so far. They will have seven more games to play in the ongoing season, before switching to the Royal London One-Day Cup.

This will be Shaw’s maiden appearance in the English county. Before him, four other Indian players have featured in the ongoing season of the Championship which includes Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex), Ajinkya Rahane (Leicestershire), Navdeep Saini (Worcestershire) and Arshdeep Singh (Kent).

Prithvi Shaw, who has been constantly overlooked by the Indian selectors, is a part of the West Zone side in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2023. The strong West Zone is studded with star players with Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Harvik Desai and Priyank Panchal in the ranks.

Although Shaw’s stocks have sharply declined in the last few months, he still is a brute force for his domestic teams. The Mumbai opener has owned many records to his name, which makes him one of the players, who can serve team India for a very long time.

He last featured in an international match back in 2021 during India’s tour of Sri Lanka where he could not perform up to his potential to knock on the selector’s door. For a brief moment in Indian cricket, Shaw was made India’s first-choice pick in 2020, however, he couldn’t resist that spot for long as the selectors sidelined him for the subsequent series.

As things stand, Prithvi Shaw’s rank has taken a dip and the cricketer only features in the second string Indian sides. In the ODI’s and Tests, Shaw has been pipped by Shubman Gill. Notably, Shaw had led his Under19 side to a World Cup win, which had the services of Shubman Gill as an opener as well.

The star cricketer was part of Delhi Capitals’ poor campaign in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shaw got a six-match stretch initially before getting dropped owing to his under-par performance. He then again made a comeback in the last stages of the season and immediately struck a half-century.
