Pat Cummins Under Fire! SRH Owners Demand IPL Title, Furious at Mohammed Shami - reports

As per the latest reports, SRH owners are furious with captain Pat Cummins and star pacer Mohammed Shami after a disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a decent IPL 2025 season despite having some fantastic individual performances and some high-scoring games. As per the latest reports, SRH owners are furious with captain Pat Cummins and star pacer Mohammed Shami after a disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign.

SRH had heavily invested in the last edition of the Indian Premier League; they transformed the whole squad and came up with a different approach. The Management wanted a trophy from captain Pat Cummins, as they gave the team everything needed. But SRH finished at 6th spot in the IPL 2025.

Last time SRH won the IPL title was in 2016 when they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs in the finals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, now the owners have reportedly wanted IPL title in 2026, putting the pressure on Pat Cummins and his team.

Why is Mohammed Shami on the radar?

Reports also suggest that Mohammad Shami’s fitness and form are the key concerns for the franchise in the upcoming season. They want to release him ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. This decision came after Shami’s disappointing performance in the IPL 2025.

Shami played 9 games in the last edition and bowled around 30 overs, but was able to get 6 wickets and had an economy rate of 11.23, which is what is concerning for the franchise, looking forward to the upcoming season and auction.

Owners Issue Title Ultimatum

Pat Cummins was bought by SRH for a hefty Rs. 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024, and he did a good job in the last season, leading the front with both ball and captaincy, but failed to lead his team to the playoffs. SRH owners want the IPL title in the upcoming season at any cost since they have invested a lot.

TOI Journalist Sahil Malhotra gave inside reports, he said, “SRH are in offensive mode as far as this IPL season is concerned. The message has been clear that they have to win a title this time. They feel they have invested a lot in this current setup under Pat Cummins.”

He further added, “They are probably thinking of dropping Mohammad Shami from the team, since they were very disappointed by Shami’s performance and fitness last season. SRH wants to win the title, and they are ready to go to any extent to win this season.”
