ENGvsIND: Opener Mayank Agarwal ruled out of first England vs India test match

ENGvsIND: Opener Mayank Agarwal ruled out of first England vs India test match.

ENGvsIND: Team India’s opener Mayank Agarwal has been ruled out of the first test match between India and England after sustaining a blow on his head during the training session on Monday. The opener showed signs of concussion after BCCI’s medical team assessed the scans.

Agarwal’s injury will be a serious concern for India in England as the team is already grappling with a string of injuries. Earlier, opener Shubman Gill, all-rounder Washington Sundar and pacer Avesh Khan were ruled out of the entire England series due to their respective injury concerns.

Although Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are called as the replacement for the injured cricketers, the major question is will they join the Indian squad on time? Both the batsman are unlikely to come into playing11 without any practice sessions.

Team India now has a very limited option left with them to pair with senior opener Rohit Sharma.  Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul are two openers on whom India can play its cards.

Rahul has been a specialist opener and has taken the opening role in the longest format as well, however, he has been kept as a middle-order batsman, as reported by some close BCCI sources.

Abhimanyu is another guy who can open the innings with Rohit Sharma, but the Indian management is unlikely to go with him as he is yet not considered good to play against the English quality bowling. Moreover, the cricketer was not considered to open the innings by the Indian management when Shubman Gill got injured.

The Indian think tanks can gamble by opening the innings with Hanuma Vihari alongside Rohit Sharma. The former player has opened the inning in Australia earlier.

The first test match between India and England will get underway on 4th August at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
