India vs Sri Lanka: Not Possible to give a chance to every player in the Sri Lanka tour: Rahul Dravid

India vs Sri Lanka: Not Possible to give a chance to every player in the Sri Lanka tour: Rahul Dravid.

India vs Sri Lanka: As India boards a flight for the island nation Sri Lanka, head coach Rahul Dravid declines all the assumptions of giving opportunities to every player in the Sri Lanka tour.

Dravid, who will be the head coach of the second-string Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour, said it is unrealistic to give chances to each and every young player selected for the tour as they look to seal their spot for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

“…I think it’s probably going to be unrealistic to expect us in a short tour like this with three games, or three one-dayers to give everyone an opportunity…and the selectors will be there as well,” Dravid declared in the pre-departure press conference.

Among all the players, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson and Ishant Kishan are the most probable ones who will go bonkers to get a place in the World Cup squad.

The tour of the island nation will begin on July 13 with ODI games followed by the T20Is.

The NCA chief said that the primary goal in front of us is to win the series.

“There are a lot of people in this squad who are pushing for places or looking to cement their places in the World Cup coming up, but I think the key goal of everyone in the squad and in the team…is to try and win the series,” the former India captain said.

Team India has just three T20I games before the marquee ICC T20 World Cup to explore options.

“I am sure that you know the selectors and management would have a pretty fair idea by now as to what is the kind of squad that they are looking for.”

The former skipper further said that a couple of players will get the opportunities in the tour for whom the selectors and management will be looking forward and can fill up the remaining places in the World Cup squad.

“There is an opportunity for maybe one or two places that, maybe, the team management or the selectors might be looking for, spots that they might want to fill, and give them a few more options,” he said.

He also revealed that a few selectors will be travelling with the team to the Sri Lanka tour and will watch the whole process.

“There would be a couple of selectors who would be travelling with us. Once we get there we will be interacting with them and see what they are thinking,” he said.
