No one except MS Dhoni messaged me after I quit Test captaincy: Virat Kohli: Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, after striking a fluent half-century against Pakistan in round two of the India-Pakistan clash, dropped a bombshell as he revealed that no one except Mahendra Singh Dhoni messaged him after he announced his quit from the longest format captaincy, earlier this year.

After India vs Pakistan Super 4 match, to everyone’s surprise, Virat Kohli came to address the media at the post-match conference. This was Virat Kohli’s first appearance in the press conference after his quit from the test captaincy in January 2022.

“I can tell you one thing. And that is when I left Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person with whom I had played earlier, and that is MS Dhoni,” said Virat Kohli at the post-match press conference after India vs Pakistan match.

He further added that though a lot of people give suggestions to him on the TVs, no one except for one turned to message him at the time when he needed the most.

“This is when many people had my number. A lot of people gave suggestions on TV, and they have a lot to say but all those who had my number, no one messaged me. So the thing is, when there is respect, when you have a connection such as this, it shows, because there is security both ways. I don’t want anything from him and neither does he. I have never been insecure of him and neither has he,” added the former Indian skipper.

“All I can say is that if I have to say something about someone, I reach out to him individually. If you give suggestions in front of the world, there is no value to it as per me because if it means to me and for my improvement, you can reach out to me one on one as well, like ‘I genuinely want that you do well’. I live with a lot of honesty, so I can see these things. I won’t say that it doesn’t matter to me, but I can see the truth. That is the way I live.”

The picture seems to be getting clear as to why Virat Kohli penned a heartwarming message for MS Dhoni, days before the start of the Asia Cup 2022.

“Being this man’s [MS Dhoni] trusted deputy was the most enjoyable and exciting period in my career. Our partnerships would always be special to me forever. 7+18,” wrote Virat Kohli.

Notably, Virat Kohli is enjoying some comeback in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 following a months-long battle with ordinary form. Kohli has so far ticked all the boxes and advancing forward in the right direction.

He slammed 35 runs in the first match followed by two consecutive half-centuries in the tournament. Presently, he is placed second in the list of highest run-getters in the Asia Cup 2022 with 154 runs in three outings.
